CLIO 16V Aux Drive Belt

Can someone please do a 'How to' for me on how to change/renew the aux drive belt. From what I can see you need hands the size of a childs !!!

'How to'....

1.) Walk into any branch of Halfords.

2.) Proceed to the "Haynes Manual" section. If you stop to look at any Ripspeed products take out your willy and approach any member of female staff for suitable punishment.

3.) Select the appropriate manual, for example if the badge on the back of your car says "Renault 19" select the manual named" Renault 19". If you struggle with this, you may find making a rubbing using a sheet of paper and a wax crayon of the badge on the back of your car speeds up the process.

4.) Take to the counter and hand over the correct money.

its quite easy Ginger, just detension the belt by slacking off the tensioner attached to the alternator (and slacking off numerous other bolts that fasten the alternator in place), and you can slide the belt off without too much difficulty.

Addie was being a funny fucker yes, but to be fair he right, the Haynes manual will lead you in the right direction quite effectively.

like neal said, its just a matter of slackening the stupid tensioner arrangment, then slackening off 2 bolts on the alt brackets. old belt off make a note of how it fits spesh if you have power steering as well , new belt on, tension it up and do up the bolts.

Im not actually familiar with the arrangement on the clio, im sure its different to the 19, and a lot more tricky, given the lack of engine bay space!

It's very similar, but remove headlight for more access.

looks to me as if there is a tensioning pully on the clio valver

No 36 in the pic

Looking at that pic it doesn't look like the Aux belt goes on the alternator!

righty ginger matey this is a facking nightmare of a job.

Its a cast bracket on the tensioner and the teeth normally break off, you have to get a 7mm allen key (try finding one of those!) in the middle then use a 22 (i think) mm spanner on the centre.

TBH I always struggle with the bastard things due to space.

Way I do it is undo the alt top bolts and ther bracket, this allows it to pivot inwards and loosen the old belt.

old belt off new one on and with luck the right tension shall be there when you pull the alt back out and do up the bolts.

Changed my belt a few weeks back, and yes, it was a right bitch to do.

Couldnt find a 7mm allen key that would fit in the gap so had to chop the end off one and put a ring spanner over the back of it.

I tried to get the belt on by undoing the alternator bolts like chris said but found it a bit tight getting it over the pulleys, so decided to tackle the tensioner.

Good luck with this one mate, not an easy job, but then nothing is on a clio 16v.
