I cannot open the doors using the remote function on the key to my year 2000 laguna(old shape). I have read the article on this site to tell you how to resync the key with the car but am not sure if this applies to my car or not - there was a mention of it only applying to earlier cars - how early?
I have noticed the door locks lock then unlock when I press the key button if a door is wide open but as soon as all the doors are closed there is no response.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. |

well the fact the key works if the door is open tells us that the receiver has problems picking it up through the glass. Are the windows tinted?
have you tried a new battery in the remote?
Is the sender in the remote loose on the board in the key?
Anyway if the car is a 2000 you have the transponder key so the re-synch doesn't apply. |

Hello Chris,
Thanks for your reply.
I have tried a new battery in the remote, no change, neither key seems to work.
The key construction seems fine - no loose or unattached bits.
As far as the glass thing goes I don't think this is relevant - If I have all doors closed, but the drivers window fully open the locks still do not operate. I can also sit in the car with the doors closed and the locks to not operate. As soon as a door is opened the locks close then open again when the key button is pressed. Hmmm.
Thanks for the info on the re-synch, that's saved me a trip to the dealer. |

the re-synch, the early keys 96 - 98 ish were rolling code keys so needed synched. later keys had the transponder chip in them so the plip bit resorted to the old fixed freq as it was no longer needed to disable the immob.
well if it does it when the doors open that would lead me to say its either a door light switch issue (is it alarmed?) or theres a latch problem.
does it work if any door even the boot is open? or does it only work if the drivers door is open? |

I have just tried it, the lock only seems to operate from the key button when the drivers door is open. If any other door is open the locks to do respond to the key button.
As far as I know the car is not alarmed, just an immobiliser as shipped with the car.
The interior light seems to function correctly when any doors are open or closed ie comes on when a door is opened, goes off when the door is closed.
Cheers. |

righty, that clears things up. the drivers door solenoid is a 6 wire unit, the other doors and boot are 2 wires, so you may need a new latch from the scrappy.
There is also a 2 pin plug on the bottom of the latch, this has a microswitch in it which cuts power to the solenoid when the switch is tripped, this may be playing up as well.
but the problem is related to the driver door latch. |
