I'm going to start this in the morning so just after some pointers.

The basic jist is that I've jumped a tooth or two on the belt and the head is now out of time.

how can I be sure that the bottom end is timed correctly, without taking the head of to see the position of the pistons?

also with it being a 16v is there a possibility that only 1 of the cams is out of time? and what’s the best way to tell?

Chris, you mentioned finding TDC by putting a bar down the plug hole, but I'm loosing my way with that notion so could you explain a little more so I don't cock it up anymore than it already is please.

making sure the 2 cams are in time with each other is easy, just look at the little timing pips on the pullies, they should always be in the same position on both pullies.

the bar down the plug hole, you just turn the engine over (by hand! Razz) with the bar in contact with a piston, and you can tell when the piston reaches the top and starts to go back down again. Should be able to judge pretty accurately where TDC is by that method. Course you could always just pop the aux pulley off the crank and use the timing pip on the crank pulley to be 100% certain everything is spot on.

rite.

The cams were 8 teeth out each but the bottom was only1 out? So I thought it would be easier to re-time properly by taking the bottom pulley off.

1 thing though, where is the timing mark for the bottom timing sprocket? I can see a slightly raised lump pointing straight down but I don't know if that’s it or not?

Rite,

Cam belt is back on but it's still very tappy!

it idles at 1000 and revs rite through the range so could it just be a lifter?

The tap is very melodic and taps almost simultaneously with the injectors. (ie the 1234 tap Razz )

any ideas would be appreciated.
