Just joined -- hello
After my water pump decided to start squeeling like a pig, an being ok with a spanner, ordered new one and got to work, all fine till actually removing the old one, apart from 2 bolts which are completely immpossible to get at ? looks like the only way is to take a bloody great bracket off,?? just to get to these 2 bolts -- anyone done this before? and more to the point how do you get that off??
car is L reg, no mods.
cheers and am now going to put more plasters on my hands.........

did you loosen the pulley first?
loosen the pulley then you can jingle it otu of the way to get to the water pump. |

Chris
Thanks for the reply, yep all pullies are loose and or now off...
It is the 'bracket' that the pully is on is the problem - the one with the tensioning teeth on it, that the pully sits on.
that i thought was the easy bit, but like i say there is no access to the 2 most rear bolts that hold the water pump in... even with the belt tensioner pully off, you could with allot of patience an a skinny spanner get at it eventually, but the other one there is not enough room to get at it, even if you were able i dont think there would be enough room to let the bolt come far enough out?

yeah i know the one, the teeth normally shear off on the tensioner btw.
I have to say a smapper normally does the job, the bolts ain;t that long. i can't recal on what exactly has to coem off to get the bracket out of the way but its an arse anyway. |

Sorted .......... well almost
Bonnet off, headlamp out, alternator off, radiator out, in fact everthing was off or out, eventually got bracket off, and the nice thing was there was a bolt hiding behind the power steering pump as well, so that had to come off as well......... christ
not an afternoon job thats for sure, anyway, all i have to do is put it all back together and hope that i dont break anything, or have to many bit left over......... although i was tempted many a time today to take a mash hammer and/or a hacksaw to most of it.
Cheeers for your help - chris

the access is awful.
The worst bit is th edaft tensioner setup! The 19 uses the clever method of moving the alt to tension it. |
