why not use IRC?
dont have to worry about any hosting then, just join a regular irc network, create and register a room and taadaaa all is done (and its free)
i use IRC all the time and can help ppl set up thier client etc |

Clients are balls nobody could be arsed downloading them / problem using in work etc, be ok if we can get a web based front end. |

with irc you can also get a java client, link to the java client can be put on the site, the java client is web based, no need to DL anything, just fire it up, put in a username and ur connected. |

Used to use IRC when I was 15, not used it for ages tho.
Need a decent web based client and choose a server |

lol ok, on the java log in you have created the room name is wrong
needs to be changed to #retro-renault
otherwise you are gonna be talking to some thick danes
if you enter that room type
/j #retro-renault
and that will get u into the right chan
