i am writing this for a friend at work who does not have internet access.
He managed to lose the keys for his renault 19 16v (muppet).
He has the spare (without the built in fob). He only paid £200 for the car and would like to be able to remove the immobiliser??
is this possible? i have read through the forum and see you can input the code on the stalk and with the gas pedal???? is this true??
also if i need to go to renault whats the damage?? (as i may buy the car and repair myself!!
thanks in advance

what immobiliser do you mean?

There is nothing to do with the immobiliser on the 19's key, just the remote central locking transmitter.

did it have a seperate fob on the keyring for an aftermarket immobiliser?

Anyway, yes you can remove it, itll just be a case of doing the reverse of installing it.

What that will entail depends on what type of immobilser it is, but removing the trim panels from the dash etc for access, removing the immobiliser unit's wiring and re-splicing the original wiring together will do it.

Actually, thinking about it, I take it the car is a phase 2? If so, the immobiliser may be built into the ECU, swap it for an early phase 2 or a phase 1 ECU and it might start fine.

Nah, worst case scenario is you have to get on ebay or find someone breaking a car and buy the key and central locking 'brain'.

Hey, we're not promising, it could be lots of things, but that's the most obvious one

No, the very early phase 2s dont have the built in ECU one. I couldnt tell you exactly when the change happened, Wicked Neo might know. How does your mate know if his car has the ECU immobiliser or not?

Yes, that's the thing. Wicked Neo knows the ECU code numbers which you can make out on the casing in the picture, he could tell you what car it's from and if it has the immobiliser, I don't know, sorry
