Does anyone do this? Ie insurance for 24hours so you could go pick up a car?

yeah but knowin my luck id get bloody pulled over for first time ever the day i drive something without insurance...it is the law of sod and i alwys seem to be ruled by it |

Exactly, which is why I want to know, I mean, how does everyone else manage when they go to pick a new car up bought in a private sale, I know most proably just transfere their existing insurance, I could have done it as a temp car to my existing policy, but they wouldnt do it cos i was under 21 |

Take out a policy, pay for it.
Then cancel it after 1 day..
(There's a 5 day cooling off period for insurance policies). |

If you take out a policy and cancel it, even after 1 day they will not give full refund on your policy, only a % back. (Have a friend who works in insurance)
Most companies will ensure a second car on policy, or transfer policy from existing to new car. for a limited time
All else fails, find a mate with a flat bed, or get someone to pick it up who is insured to drive any motor |

JB, I took out an insurance policy on the car, decided I'd need to do it anyay, but have since cancelled it, seeing as the car was off the road and I cant drive at the moment anyway. |
