Ok, set off in the car this morning, starts 1st time, driving along without any problems. Stopped at a supermarket to use the ATM, again started fine, whilst i'm driving along, come up to a roundabout so i slow down. When i get on the throttle it just dies. Tried starting it with the car in N, it turns over, but doesen't fire up. Park it by the side of the road and manage to tow it home after about 1 1/2 hours. Tried starting it again, again it turned over, but still nothing. Checked all the fuses, topped up coolant in case it was low. When i try to start it again, it no longer turns over. Just a clicking noise and the hum of the fuel pump. The starter has suddenly stopped as well. I've connected it to an engine starter but no joy. I don't think it's the battery anyway. At first i thought it was due to being cold and a bit damp this morning, but its dry and warmish now. What can i check before calling a mobile mechanic? It's a 1994 Clio RT auto. |

could be the ignition switch, inhibitor switch, the non firing before the starter stopped working could have been the crank angle sensor. |

I just had a look under the car to check the white wire to the starter, it seems fine. Still nothing from the starter itself though. Noticed oil (or some kind of fluid) was present on the underside of the engine bay (drivers side only). I've checked all the fluid levels and they seem to be in order. Any ideas what else it could be. When i try to start it, i still get the hum and the clicking of the solenoid, i don't however get a twitch from the rev counter. |
