Well just back off Holiday with the girlfriend, toured 400 miles around the lakes in the valver and she didn't miss a beat. Well, not of her own doing anyway
Rained pretty heavy on Saturday night and we set off to the lakes to see some sights, went up round Windermer, Kendle, Ambleside etc. Wanted to get off the main roads and up near the mountains so went off down a single track road - upsetting lots of walkers who got a bit wet even at walking pase as the road was a few cm in water.
Get to the end and there is a guy in a Saab broken down he's just driven through some deep water before a bridge. He cranks it over and you can hear the valves mashing the pistons. Ouch.
So what do I do? Turn around? No! I open the bonnet and have a look. Hmmm, IK seems a bit low. So i wrap it in a plastic bag leaving about a 2CM square showing on the top half and move the cold air feeds away from it. Hmmm, found a aux belt in the boot and used it to strap it around the strut brace.
Slowly creep up to the waters edge in first then, shit! It's getting deep, drop the clutch and scream through the water which is so deep it totally submerges the bonnet, half fills the boot and get through it! It was so deep it was lapping up at the bottom of the windscreen and the vent was totally submerged. I can only think that my saving grace was a small air lock around the induction kit!
Get to the otherside, all seems fine. Set off again, total loss of power and a noise which sounds like bolts in a washing machine. Arse, must have got water in. Pull over, remove the bag off the IK etc and find out that the noise is just the plastic rad and gearbox guards so pull 'em off.
The misfire was caused buy water filling the plug wells - to the top! All I had in the car was a polishing rag so managed to limp halfway back to the cottage I was staying but when traffic started getting bad as I crossed the M6 she didn't want to idle and died at the side of the road.
Called the AA who arrived within 20 minutes and said "its knackered mate if you've been through a lake, I'll phone for a tow" - I said its fixable and after a bit of persuading we moved the strut brace aside, took of the HT guides and used a syringe to clear the plug wells.
The she roared back into life and was on our merry way!
Will post some pictures later tonight as Sophie has my camera to show her mates some pictures, but needless to say what an adventure!
I owe the valver some TLC now for surviving that little blunder!

Nope, £200 valver is running like a beauty now - in fact even better then before, took the plugs out and gave them a clean and done 60 miles in her this morning uphill a lot of the way and she loved it!
Will give her an oil change this weekend by way of an apology!
