Hey all
Ive got a R19 16v chammy
The clutch cable has broke, im a uni student so I cant afford to get it done by a garage.
Im quite good with tools but ive never fixed a clutch cable before, ive also got a Haynes manual.
How easy would it be to fix if I was able to get the car up on some axle stands?
Thank you for your help. |

I forget how haynes says to do it but its pretty straight forward, very very tight tho!
Tie string to the pedal end of the old one when you take it out |

Yeah, like Chet says, pretty straight forward. I've done it twice on mine. Best to remove the heat shield. Follow haines manual pretty much. Definatly tie some string to the old one to transfer to the new one. Getting it behind the brake servo is very tight for normal fingers.
Best of Luck |

No need to use axle stands really...just do the string thing. |

Bit of a fiddly job the first time you do it. I found the Haynes manual not a great deal of help. Just be aware of the self adjuster mech on the clutch pedal. You will need to release this off so you can get the cable on. Make sure the cable is routed correctly behind the manifold otherwise heat damage could occure. Best to have a mate to help with an extra pair of hands while your scrambling around in the drivers foot well. If your using string to pull new one through, the hole where the cable comes through into the car is not that big so watch the size of knot you do. The plug that fits the hole on cable where it enters inside the can can be a little pain to get out and make sure the new one is pushed right home and fits snugly into the hole. And please, if your gonna swear when doing this, swear in French......! |
