Ok, not really a retro Renault but I'll ask anyway  The Laguna has suddenly developed a bad case of the shakes. One minute it was fine, the next minute the engine is rocking and the whole car is vibrating. I was sitting in traffic when this happened
It is worst from idle to 2000 rpm and when accelerating. The car does not splutter or stall, the revs are steady and the idle speed is about right. I don't think it's down on power but it is hard to tell as I don't feel like flooring it to find out.
My first thought was that an engine mount had gone but would this happen that suddenly. The car has around 70,000 clocked up. Also, the "anti-pollution" warning light is coming on on the dash, duff catalytic converter maybe? Cheers for any help!

How bad is the vibration?
Coilpack is always the first suspect on a laguna/megane! |

Chet, the vibration is pretty bad. It's a low frequency vibration, the car shakes like an old tractor and the engine is moving more than it should at idle. Apart from the shaking the engine seems to be idling and running reasonably well, it does not stall and the revs do not oscillate.
Does it sound like the coil pack?
With the engine off I tried moving the engine by hand and it barely rocked, would this mean that the mounts are OK. |

You don't happen to have a 1.9/2.2 TDCi do you? The early TDCi's were plagued with Turbo problems which cause a similar issue to yours. If it's Petrol i'd also hazzard a stab guess at the CP's to. Mine have done it once and after a good night in a warm environment they've been fine since!

if its 1.9/2.2dci may well be the egr valve,also the intercoolers have a habit of blowing up,if petrol could be coils(1.6/1.8 common) |

Thanks for the help lads. It is a 1.6 petrol so a coil problem is the prime suspect at the moment. |
