Hill power hoses

i went to Wood Green, north london today to pick up some hill power blue silicon hoses from a very nice gent called Chris (RSC treasurer).

included is that damn metal T piece which has half rotted away on mine and renault wanted Â£12 odd for!

Should be able to sort my annoying little leak now!

I should be gettin my set back fairly soon, i sold them with the t-piece in them so hopefully they're still there

I like the stock ren hoses with the white internal pipe work, they are quite good actually.

Also B&Q is the place for metal water piping!

Chris, i looked in all the plumbing, DIY, car places etc for something suitable, but as im sure you are aware, the 3 ends on the T piece are not all the same size. Plus the only ones that i found that it would have been remotely possible to use were copper, and im not about to add that to my system along with the ally and iron!

ive thought about getting a lump of zinc and screwing that to the inside of the thermostat housing (galvanic corrosion...sacrificial metal...blah blah blah)

Demon Tweeks do a range of plastic T pieces in their proper motorsport catalogue but again, all the ends are the same size, and im not sure how tight i can rag the jubilee up on a plastic pipe...

copper pipings fine, just need to flush it more often.

ok i fitted them all fine no problems. filled up the system, bled it etc.

Then the end snapped off the poxy bleed tap plug thing so i cant seal it!

anyone got any bright ideas for a bodge?

you mean you snapped the head off the bleed screw in the radiator?

Is the thread stuck in?

yeah the end came off. the other bit is still in there, didnt look too closely cos it was very hot and steamy.

could probably get it out, but the rad is pretty battered anyway, think ill just get another one.

Anyone got a good one going very cheap?

right ive just been out again now the engine is cooler and got the other bit out. From the look of the break (slightly orange), its been cracked for a while now and my fettling was the last straw.

might try to glue it just so i can use the car till i get another rad.

Or you can go to renault and get a new one

Saves having to replace the whole rad.

i didnt even bother checking dialogys as i assumed that you wouldnt be able to buy the bleed screw seperately, only the whole rad, and at a stupid price...

I made that mistake with the energy.

Could only get a rad from halfords at Â£105 I was not amused.

right, wanting to drive the car today i set about forming a bodgetastic solution to my broken bleed screw problem.

was quite simple in the end, i just drilled a hole down the middle of both broken bits and used a little bolt and nylock to hold them together as one part.

Put it in and it leaked around the bolt, so i filled the end of the finger grip bit with epoxy. Sorted.

Ill get another one from renault (or nick one from a scrappies, wherever i find myself soonest) because i dont suppose it will last forever, and it will only catch me out when i least want it to.
