I'd go with the thermostat as it's easier to change that first. Then go with the matrix if there's still no joy. |

well what does the temp gauge say?
Then we can decided if its the stat or the more than likely air locked/partially blocked matrix.
Does it start off warm then get gradually cool? |

my heaters have not been upto temp recently, but then the car doesn't seem to be heating up quick enough, lucky to make first small line on ggauge after 10 mile journey. Do you think it's worth changing the thermostat? |

probably.
Chances are its the aux water pump pipes causing the problem due to a broken/no fitted valve in it. |

Mine's the same, if you turn the fans off for a while and then turn them on it starts off blowing hot air which gradually cools until it's just cold, from reading other posts on here I guess it's an airlock... it's just how to get rid of it. |

What colour is the coolant?
Mine was brown soup, so I flushed the cooling system through, removed the top rad hose and the rear hose off the header tank and attach that to a hose pipe. Did that with mine, all manor of crap came out of it and then refilled / blead etc and heater worked fine. Take the bottom hose off the rad if you want to do it properly also. |

i mean feckin hell !!!
what do you expect from that cooling system if the water is full of rust ??
spend a day and do it properly like i did ,
take all water hoses out and the radiator give all of them a proper clean squeezing the hoses and getting the build up rust out of them under hot water from the tap ,flush the head ,through the matrix pipes etc
put them all back together stick 50/50 water and antifreeze mix in there and you are sorted for a long time |
