that amount of play between the cams certainly isnt too tight seeing as the haynes say +/-3mm, which is too tight.

Finally got everyhing back on, work and the weather slowing things down, 2 questions from this picture:
1. is it in the right place on the sprockets?
2. theres a tiny ammount of what can only be described and 'belt wobble' when running; in the directions arrowed, is this normal/ok?

yeah the belt wobble is fine. once its ran for a bit, the belt will sort itself out ok. jsut make sure the belts not too tight.

You can just tell I worry too much....just dont want it sliding off or snapping.
