Hi neal, i run an old HP Vectra VE 500mhz ,512mb ram running xp pro sp2. since i put xp on it the stupid thing is as slow as anything, i found a bios update on the HP website and flashed it ..that went well...i ran sisandra program and that tells me that my FSB speed is low (how can i change that?) and that my processor can go as high as 800+. ive looked on a few sites that explain the principles and advantages of increasing fsb or clock speed which then inturn will increase the processor speed , but they dont tell u how to do it. sorry i forgot to state the the processor is an Intel Celeron P6c mendocino A, the board is a HP VEi7 with a pga370 slot. So if u' know anything about this process your help will be gratfully received,,,,,i might go as far as having yuor babies Very Happy

thanx Kat

new motherboards are cheap, 20 quid will get you a decent 333mhz+ FSB.

Don't offer neal sex as he will take you up on it.

Have a read of this, twelve pages or so of everything you will need to know..

http://www.tomshardware.com/2000/07/28/intel_celeron_overclocking_guide/index.html

But i wouldn’t bother clocking your board to be honest, you will only get limited gains and without adequate cooling you will only fry you board anyway..

What MHz is your RAM?

IF its an old HP vectra than from my experience of them at work you wont be able to change the FSB as the BIOS options are very limited.

If you buy a new motherboard, becuase of the age of the machine you'll probably be looking at a new CPU and RAM and the least.

Vectras are horrible PCs. Better off (and probably cheaper) buying a whole new PC!

u want an old PC to run like lightning, and i'm talking ur 200/300MHz jobbies here . . .

start running Linux

Microsoft are in cahoots with intel, AMD, and nearly every other computer hardware manufacturer.

System requirements are raised unnecessarily just to keep sales of their latest products up.
Obviously some things need more process power, but this is only reflected in the speed in which tasks are completed.

Linux is free, is more reliable than any version of windows and doesnt use the exessive resources like windows does to complete even basic tasks.
