right after having no luck getting a socket A processor in Glasgow and an unwillingness to pay for an internet one and limited upgrade from a 3100.

We need another one, I am getting this one which will do me fine.

So we need something beefy.

3ghz+, needs to take at least 3 gig of ram, dunno if going sata HD is an idea or not, decent mobo

what socket do we go for? It has to be upgradable as it will be kept for a few years. Socket, 754/739/775 and 478 (intel only?).

939 seem to have the big expensive processors, but if the performance is worth it we will pay.

If you want it to last a few year;s then socket 939 the only way to go. Intel got a new socket planed for 2006. I'll spend your time in looking around on the net,

If i read that right you are after a motherboard, one of the only pc mags/online reviewers that dont just rate something as good or not on the principle that they can keep the stock or not is PC Pro..

They reccommend>>>

AMD Mobo http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/80936/asus-a8nsli-deluxe.html

Intel Mobo http://www.pcpro.co.uk/labs/77660/asus-p5nd2sli-deluxe.html

The only people who can really reccommend a board is someone who has tested so many, pc pro give an honest opinion. These two arnt the best you can get, but just a compromise with performence and £..

Asus is defo the way to go though..

939 is the only way to go really, been around for awhile and seems asif its going to stay around for awhile too which is nice. Would personally recommend an Asus or Abit board, never had any real problems with either of them and if you wish to dabble with abit of overclocking they should do you well. My current abit board (AV8 3rd eye) hasnt put a foot wrong in the last 2 years and overclocks very nicely. Go for somthing with PCI Express for your video tho if you want it to last awhile, im now stuck because I was cheap and went for the AGP video option.
