Right then, on my last 19 i adjusted the handbrake fine (cable under the floorpan towards the back- moved a few nuts). that was no problem.
my new 19 has discs on the back as opposed to drums. no idea how to adjust it at the disc end of the system. ive tightened the cable a fair bit (under the car), but it just doesnt seem to be gripping.
cheers |

you dont adjust it at the disc end, its just a blob on the end of the cable which hooks into the bit on the caliper. you adjust it under the car. Dont know if its different on drum models but on a valver both cables meet up at a plate thing, and the handbrake pulls on the plate. There is a nut on the handbrake cable which bears against the plate (and another to lock it), just move this along. |

right you don't ever adjust the locknut cables. If they have stretched to require it then you need new cables.
The rear disc handbrake can stop working right, way to sort it is remove the pads and then wind the caliper back in. Then re-fit the pads and press the brake a few times, the brakes shoudl be better and th ehandbrake should now work properly.
Also the rear disc handbrake even when full on you can move the car if you push hard enough. |

yeah its shite..altho once in an emergency i did end up doin a handbrake turn....
drivin along some country road, all of a sudden theres a crossraods out of nowhere, which my road has to give way to...lots of lorries i slam on and i know it isnt goin to stop in time, so for some reason i pulled the handbrake up and i just skidded nicely to a halt, side on to the busy road of lorries....bit hairy, looks like i meant it tho |

If its brake drums i'd hazard a guess, its more likely to be the slef adjusters in the drums that need looking at. |

The brake itself works, but i have to pull it so high up to get it working.
It failed mot because of it |

Could still be the self adjusters. |

I cleaned out every part inside the right drum tonight.
The self adjuster was completely stuck to the brake shoe on that side.
I will clean the left one tomorrow.
As for now i think this will solve at least a part of my problem.
Hopefully enough for the mot |
