HI ALL
Right managed to get the plastic cowlings off and all the screws loose.
BUT i cant get mny hand behing the speedo panel, i can only get it 3 inches forward and theres not enough space to get my hand down the back to pull the speedo cable out of the back.
When i tilt it forward i can feel the cable tension increase and dont want to snap it.
Any ideas or advice??
Taken 4 screws out of the speedo panel, 2 top 2 bottom

use a long screwdriver, go in from the panel thats under the steerign column, you will see the cable, twist the driver to pop it off or use a pair of angle pliers under the display. |

hi mate,
i believe you have a renault19 ,i have just done the same job a month ago ,its seriously easy once you know whats behind the panel . to get your hand through to the speedo cable switch you have to get the little panel thats supposed to be holding the manual choke switch (you probably dont have the switch but the plastic bit. its on the right side of the steering column adjuster thingy and 1 screw holds it ) yes get that out and put your right hand through the hole (its quite hard if you have thick wrists) but i managed to get to the speedo cable and turn the bastard and pull out while holding the ins panel with the other hand after that is easy ,the electric switches come out by pulling
good luck |

I normally remove the bottom panel and the heater duct. You can get your hand up pretty easy then |

yopu don't actually twist it, your meant to squeeze the 2 tags togewther.
Even with nthe heater duct out my arm and hand are to big to fit in there. |

Well ive eventually done it, after loads of cuts and grazes the jobs done. Tried it tonight and it looks a lot better, at least i can see how fast im going. Just one prob, looks like thr bulb behind the petrol gauge has blown, but i can survive without that as it gets enough light from the other bulbs PLUS if you think im going to try this again YOU CAN S*D OFF, that speedo cable was a nightmare.
Took aload of pics so will post soon.
Thanks Guys
