Hi all
anyone know how hard it is to remove the alloy sump on a 19 16v, damn thing has a crack

Its a bit of a pig with the engine in tbh
Remove all the torx from the sump and the 3 18mm(?) nuts at the box end
Take the dipstick and oil level sensor out and open the front engine mount too
Then you need to lift the engine a bit to get the sump to slide out and over the subframe to clear the box studs.
If you get the studs out of the box all the better |

Yeah it can be weldeded, any engineers should be able to do it |

i may try and get the mechanic near me to weld it when its still on the car, with the oil drained of corse |

you wont be able to get it done in situ. the residual oil (no matter how long u drain it for ) will cause major problems with the welding process. it will need to be removed and thouroughly cleaned |

I know this may sound stupid but would i be able to use chemical metal to seal the hair line crack, its not leaking at the moment but you never know when its going to start |

Pah, my old one had about 4 cracks in it and it never leaked, it'll be fine
Chemical metal can be used tho... |

Mine looks like it has a crack in it, but its never leaked any oil.
Maybe something to do with the way the things are cast. |

i think the crack you all see is from the factory...i have seen them too and thought..oo crack! but its not visible on the inside of the sump, so i think it is just a mark from manufacturing |
