Hi
Um whenever I take my 1.8 RT up to the national speed limit she just begins to float thats the best wayof describing it , there is no play at the front wheels however and she has just been fitted with new drop links, the track rodd ends and bottom ball joints look servicabe,

Do you think it is the shockers chaps Wink

Cheers

this happened on my 19...i tried everything....changed track rod ends, lower ball joints, bearings, ...in the end i bought some new struts for it and only then did i discover that the nut that goes on the top of the strut holding it to the top mountign plate was loose!! this was all that was causing it...none of the other things.

to chk this jack the car up a bit so the weight is off the wheel but the wheel isnt off the ground. then grab top of wheel and see if u can shift it in and out whilst keepin an eye on the strut top nut.

on the red lag botrh top mounts were buggered.

If you bounced the car whilst lookign at the top mounts you could see movement. When I stuck the new one (still go to do the other) no movement, no knocks and solid as a rock.

But shockers may be a strong possibility as might dodgy/low tyres.

get a new top mount then see if that sorts it.

But if the cars a high miler then i'd get new top mounts, bearings and struts tbh

That way its all new.

nope you need spring compressors.

Also get long reach decent ones. The 18 quid halfords efforts I have are crap, got them years back and to lazy/tight to get new ones.

Anyway with those compressors I still have to bounce on the strut to get it down enough to get the nut on.
