Been towed home by the AA.... clutch cable's gone AGAIN.

Problem was the circular rubber being pulled through the metal eye on the gear box, just before the fork.

It was also the likely cause of not being able to select gears.

Needs yet another new cable, and I'll change the pedal assembly for good measure.

I'd been driving the 19 for 4 years before I got AA cover! Only reason I got it was because of the RSC Gumball, longest trip for the 19.

Turns out the only car that's needed it (four times now and counting) is the Clio.

The clutch is fine though, at least it isn't slipping.

I tested it yesterday, had it in 5th gear up a steep hill with no problems.

If the clutch pedal ratchet was faulty would this make it difficult to change gear??

That's what I thought was causing my problem.

The ratchet after all is supposed to grip the cable when you press the clutch, if the teeth are worn (for example after a cable snap and isn't replaced) then it might allow the cable to slip, resulting in the clutch and gearbox not being able to fully disengage one another, which in turn makes it a pig to change gear.

I have a problem with engaging reverse gear, and sometimes have to double clutch to get 2nd gear engaged...... I reckon my problem is the ratchet.

I changed the cable a short while ago, they can be right pigs, anyone know how difficult the ratchet is to change?

my 19 used to crunch between 1st 2nd and somtimes 3rd did it because of the selector fork was worn and when it did punch though the clutch went or vise versa
