well, it (some might say predictably) failed.
On what?
well, theres the blowing exhaust (bodge it)
wipers smear (thought they would pick up on that.. new wiper blades)
and lastly... "rear service and parking brakes low effort".
Tomorrow will be spent bleeding the rear brakes, new pads if necessary and have a look at the bias valve (oh christ!)
Overall, not as bad as i had expected, and they didnt even pick up on my dodgy as hell bodged exhaust mountings or the fact that a piece of suspension spring is missing from the drivers side. Result! |

hehe some might say  some certainly did
new disks for me on the rear and pads saw mine sailing through, i recomend ktecs rear fast road brake kit bargin at 170 for discs. pads and bearings pressed in ready
look bit small though |

13 quid rear pads, 40 quid rear discs, 25 quid for both bearings
or 170 for some drilled efforts you can do yourself

thats cos halfords rip you off big stylee!
Trade at the motor factors.
Like track rod ends and lower balljoints, I never pay more than a tenner for any of them. |

what you talking about fool? Do all the garages go to halfords to get their parts then? Or are there no garages in Norfolk either?

GSF Want no more then £100 for rear discs/bearings/pads when I was looking into it for the black valver.
Those prices ex VAT chris? Cos add the vat and they are spot on to within a few quid of my best quote which was cost price through a garage.
I got drilled discs and fast road pads for the front of the cordy - there was only £20 in it between them and the standards which I didn't think was too bad - and they are 280mm discs!
Drilled rear discs are pointless IMO tho they do look quite nice but rear discs are tiny on a R19 anyway. |

local garages use a part co round here as do we except we add halfords mark up there is a gsf in norwich, sod that for a game of soldiers would cost me a n arm and leg in petrol just for them to give me the wrong part |

well, the bias valve was totally free and adjusted properly when i looked at it (thanks for the tech article chris...v helpful!), and the pads are fine, so theres only one more thing to do... bleed the brakes.
Forgot to say at the time but as an extra bonus i discovered i have goodridge braided brake hoses on mine... which is nice |

bled the brakes, its a bit better but i can still just move the car with the handbrake on. Do they want it not to move at all with the handbrake on?
will it be ok to just adjust the bias valve for the MOT to send more force than usual to the rear, then back it off after? |

I thought the 13 quid all in for the rear pads was a bargain. Decent kit as well.
The rear discs are not small, they are the same dia as the front brakes ont he 1.4 models.
And they do do a lot of braking when the work properly.
The handbrake on the rear disc models is not terribly effective, its worse obviously if the rears are lazy in normal braking.
Even when they are crap they shoudl pass the mot, mine were just within pass spec which is stupidly low on the handbrake (footbrake was well up though cos I freed them off). But my car won't hold on a hill with the handbrake.
Need new pads and to swap over the passenger caliper to sort it. |
