Thought it might be useful to compile a list of gearbox symptoms and their causes.
For the purposes of this, assume that the gearbox cables/linkages are in perfect condition, and the fault is inside the gearbox.
I'm sure this is not totally correct and is incomplete, so feel free to amend/append this list.
Crunching going down to a gear - Synchromesh partially worn for that gear.
Crunching going up to a gear - Synchromesh badly worn for that gear.
Blocking going into gear - ?Synchromesh again?
Popping out of gear - ?
Gear not fully engaging - Bent fork?
Whining in certain gear - Bearing for that gear is worn.
Whining continuously - Final drive bearing worn?
Can't find gear - Selector spring broken. |

that list woudl need a book written on it to cover it all, syncrho hubs wear and tilt causing that, some boxes are misisng the washer on 2nd gear from the factory so they pop out etc etc |
