with a bit of luck it will stay under Â£100 but i dont hold out much hope on that.

Theres only certain things that could tow a valver with an A-Frame, the unbraked towing weight of most cars is far less then what a valver weighs.

I towed a Escort on one using a P100, the brakes wern't the best and went to stop at a T junction and just kept going!

Since then I only tow with a braked trailer! Also I think I'm not sure where insurance stands with towing an untaxed/unmoted car on an A-Frame, for example?

you will probably find your insurance covers any tjhing the car is towing.

i tow boats regually. and i'm pretty sure the car insurance covers the boat wjilst in transit

dont think it matters that its untax and un- moted

I was told my a traffic cop once that a car towned on a rope/bar/A-frame had to be roadworthy and taxed/motd. Its only when the front wheels were lifted off the ground with an towing dolly that tax/mot didn't matter.

Plus anyone who's passed in the last7 years has to take a trailer test to tow anything over 350kg or something silly like that (not that its ever stopped me).

I think its a bit of a grey area - one I'd want to get checked out before I towed with an A-Frame.

well an a frame its illeghal to have anyoen in the car being towed.

Also the p100 sound sliek a piece of shite! I have towed transits etc with 1.4 19's no problem using tow bars and its stiopped them just fine.

I think when the front wheels are lifted off the ground it becomes a trailer and is subject to be treated appropriately.

I had to do that trailer test around a year ago. It wasn't too bad, what did annoy me though was, I turned up for the test in the Landrover and was turned away as it did not have seats in the back. Apparently it's written in the test conditions somewhere...
It cost around Â£250 for training and test. The thing is if you have a smash when towing, and don't have B+E then you are driving without a license, which could be messy enough.
It's peace of mind I suppose.

if you have grandfather rights then you dont need to worry mind as it entitles you to drive with a trailer aswell as letting you drive other things.
