tbh I think its the operator thats the dangerous thing!

When its right the handle snaps over and stays where its supposed to. If its to tight then it springs back.

Those ones are naff, you should ahve got a screw type one from machine mart and they are the same price...

Keep tightening it til the spring is compressed enough so that the colets can be removed. They may take some persuasion with a knocking stick, and you probably hear them "bang" as they are released. then use a flat screw-driver to remove the collets

heres my valve spring compressors

Image

heres a valve, spring, top seat and collets

when the compressor is on right and you move the handle this is what it should look like

this allows you to take th ecollets off.

If the spring isn't moving tap it with a hammer on the cap.

its prolly just really stuck together from the looks of that head...soak the valves in the area of the springs with wd40 over night....try again tomoz...

also i find a magnet tool (magnet on end of telescopic stick like an aerial) the best and most handy thing for getting the collets out. once they are released as if they are stuck by either grease or rust to the valve stem they wont just fall out and its hard to bang a head on the bench esp with a compression tool attached.

job done many thanks to chris and jonnyboy.
i managed to take an inlet and outlet out piss easy after soaking the sprigs in wd40. god this thing is magical.
i was going to wait till tomorrow but just would not be able to sleep tonight ,so i went out to the shed and started from the beginning .wd40 helped a lot though must admit. that cylinder head has been staying outside for a year or longer probably ,i think its normal for the springs to be rusty and stiff.
i soaked all the springs in wd40 now will take them all out tomorrow .takes 3 minutes to take one of them out .
cheers guys
