rite today was so embarrasing, the sodding thing died on me at the lights and turned over like it the beattery was dead, after a m8 came and bump started me we noticed a knocking coming from the engine bay and i aint got a clue what it is, all i know is that when you rev it whist stationary up 2 5k and let go of the acc u hear a knock, now i dont know wether thats the battery not givin enough power for it 2 keep sparking coz it juss dies when u rev it hard and u have 2 bump it again, please dont say its the big ends which have gone coz i need this car to go chichister on friday, a m8 reckons its the battery cz the knock sounds like wen uve run out of fuel wen it cuts out reckons the pump stops wrking but im not sure any help would be appriciated

right i figured out why it cuts out now its not only the battery not holding charge but the wore that goes from the red lil box on the air flow meter is fucked so will have to fone paul to chuck one of them in aswell, i checked the oil and it was on the bottom notch so ive put more oil init and its got a lil quieter, checked the plug and they black and wetish wilth oil so will get sum new plugs tommorow, personally im thinking its electrical i.e plugs dizzy and rotor causing it to miss coz it does fart out the exhaust wen u rev it but only a lil however im not to sure as im not loosing any performance out of it just when stationary u can hear the knock will let you know what lee thinks at work tommorrow, if any1 can help please call me at work on 01293-538753 coz im really stuck on this 1 cheers guys

its not an air flow meter, thats the throttle body. The red thing is the Throttle Position Sensor. If you pull that off and put another one on, you will have to set it up properly with a multimeter. You'd be better off just fixing/joining the wires and not disturbing it if you can.

Also, it sounds like you need to sort your earths out of the battery is giving you jip and its being an arse to start.

so you reckon i shud just solder the wires together? nah the earths are fine its the battery not holding its charge according to wrks drop tester 2day its a fucked battery, still i wanna know wats this knocking about really peeeing me of it is

yeah, if thats all its going to take, just solder them back together. Do it properly and use a bit of heat shrink tubing over it. Dont forget to put the tubing on before you join the wires! Smile

those wires on the TPS always corrode, both mine went, so soldered and insulation taped them.

u can remove the TPS from the throttle body if you mark its posistion before removing it so when u refit it, it goes back exactly where it came off.

ok, and where is the rattle coming from?
under the cam belt cover ?
if it is u need to replace the tensioner pully, idle pully and cam belt.
u can get this as a kit from renault

i would pull the cam belt cover and check the state of the belt and pullys, and i would change the cam belt as a matter of course anyway, u never know when the last owner did it, no matter what they claim and getting that done is cheaper than having to replace bent valves!

this was the cause of my rattle - fucked tensioner pully

yer seems like its coming from the drivers side near to the bulk head so will have lee take a look at it, its funny it started juss last nite wen it died on me thnx neo

also neo would it stop rattling at idle if the pully was fucked or would it be continuious?

when mine went, at first i could hardly hear it at idle but when u revved it, it got louder, 60 miles later it seized.
the rattle sound was coming from the cam belt itself!
due to the lack of tension on it from the seized idler pully, the belt was slapping off the cam cover!
i was lucky it did not jump off the cams and fuck the head!

you should also post about your rattle in the tech questions area, more ppl read that than they do these threads, you will get a lot more ideas about the rattle that way.

thats exactly wat mines doin its non existant at idle but u give it sum n it gets louder, un4tunately lee dint get a chance to have a look at it so ill get him 2 check 2mra

nope no clio and thnax for reminding me about tht knock will add it in a bit, i juss cant be naffed with a engine swop coz ill neva get round to doing it so mite aswell flog it might just get anutha 19 but not to sure

well i hope you do get another 19!

You havent even found out for sure what the problem is yet! if its that heatshield, you can sort it *easily*, seems a bit hasty to sell the car without knowing what the problem is!

yer i know but when shes done so many miles i dont think shes upto givin me the speed outcome i am after, put it this way on the way back from hastings, we got the brighton roundabout to join the a23 now in my 205 ive done from there to my house in 10mins coz i had my dad time it when we tested it out in the 19 it took me 30mins it dint wanna seem to go over 82mph now i cant have that when ive gota be in so many plcs in 1 day for it to piss about on me, theres a blue ph1 chammy on ebay with a 100 starting any ideas of thtas worth going for
