My understanding is that the diffs held in by clips use a different box casting than those held in by the nut
I could be just getting the JB1 and JB3 mixed up tho...
Why bother anyway? |

also the clip that pops is still there! The nut goes on the other end of the diff.
Also you need to get crownwheels and you also need to change the gear on the layshaft.
Not worth it. |

I was just wondering as i dont want my diff circlip to keep popping out, i hear its quite common, so i thought that might be a solution, im ok at welding...would it be worth welding it while the box is out anyway? |

welding prob won't do anything to stop it.
Not all boxes are affected btw |

I've modded my new gearbox thats going into my ph1.
This was an idea given to me by Mick who does the chips.
insert the thrust washer and diff circlip, turn them so the tab is 180 degrees from where its inserted.
Drilled two 1/16th holes thru it and the thrust washer and fitted two roll pins, this should prevent the circlip from spinning, it pops when the sunwheel grabs it and spins it, so when the tab is back to where the slot is on the diff, out she pops.
I will get pics of the box later showing this mod (I'm at work at the mo) |

like i said before its not the circlip that grabs its the tab washer.
why do you think the tab is always broken?
really use your brain |

heh thats what i meant, as of course the tab washer is in contact with the sunwheel, like u say.
The roll pins go thru both the circlip and the tab washer, might not be as strong as a weld but also easier to take apart if needed. |

righty your clearly havign a stupid day.
The tab washer is in contact with the sunwheel and th ecirclip on the other side.
The tab washer is what gets gripped by the sunwheel and the tab is snapped off. When this happens it grips the circlip and closes it up.
Fitting the pins will just knock time off the circlip closing up and firing out! |

work has got all the equipment to:-
port, polish,
knife edge crank,
stg 5 cams,
lighten and balence,
skim heads,
bore out,
etc, etc, so u let me know what u rekon it will get with that and i'll tell them at work and see what they say |

what does that mean, exactly? (yes stage 5 i know, but what does that mean?)
Unless youre going turbo/throttle bodies (ie keeping the standard inlet), there is NO WAY you can get anywhere near 180 let alone 200. |

NB: I am not saying i will get 200, its just what i have been told by the guy at work who does all the engine mods, he claims its possible, main reason i mentioned it is because i wanted to see itf its been done and if its possible! |

if it's all done properly and you're running throttle bodies, yes 200 is achievable...
What ECU are you going to use? |

hmm ok, do you mean youre going to run a standard ECU with one of Mick's chips?
Well I did say you can get 200 if you do it properly, but that aint doing it properly!
Stan and Chet can tell you more than me, so it would be worth a chat with them about 'R-tuner' from www.fastchip.nl , it allows the standard ECU to remapped properly. |
