Zed from RSC has done a wicked guide on the torsion bar
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/brian.morris5/Torsion%20Bar%20Guide/guide.htm
plus there have been quite a few topics on the torsion bar on RR, hit the search button, type in torsion and loads of them spesh Neals fun he had with doing the torsion bar on his hatch . . .
my ph2 is lowered at the front to and i need to do my rear torsion bar as well, not really looking forward to doing it to be honest after reading all about neals fun with his hatch BUT when he did the torsion bar on his chammy, it went very smoothly. |

AARRGGHHH dont mention the torsion bar on the hatch!!
chammy was dead easy. just depends on whether or not youre lucky. If its nice and clean under those caps, youre on. If its rusty and manky, you cna probably forget it. |

That guide is good, i've always put off doing the torsion bar in the past as i thought it would be a bigger pain in the arse than it's worth. Will try it when i get another 16v. I guess like you say, it depends on the state of the current bar and surroundings. |

I didnt. It might as well have been welded in. In the end i swapped the entire rear beam off my donor 19, which was already lowered.
Chammy was clean under both caps and both bars slid out when i glanced at them. Job was done within an hour.
You can only try matey. Take the caps off and douse under them with WD40 every day for a week before you want to do the lowering. Just take the skirts off, undo the bottom shock bolts and try to pull out the bars. After you have sheared off 10-20 bolts, made up a makeshift slide hammer and used that, and tried smacking the stuck bar out from the other side with a length of metal rod and a BIG hammer, take my advice and give up... |
