Hello.
I just bought a clio 1.8 16v engine to transplant into my 1.4rt.
What should i consider changing/checking before putting it in???
so far, this is what i plan on doing...
complete gasket change including head, inlet, exhaust and rocker.
new head bolts.
new clutch (which one is best to go for?)
New belts (again, which one's are best to go for?)
any advice on what to do or the best places to buy parts from appreciated.
Thanks
Chris |

you should change the brakes and suspension for 16v gear.
just use standard stuff for the engine servicing. Get it all from GSF, apart from the cambelt, which you could get as a kit with the 2 tensioners from renault
Might as well check the thermostat is still in one piece and the water pump as well while its out the car. |

yeah, how many miles had the engine got on it?
Anyway, have a look and feel at them, if they feel rough, change them, if in doubt, change them. |

standard clutch is fine. Get a valeo unit from gsf, although the uprated 5gtt/volvo 440 one is uprated but still civil enough.
Leave the gaskets alone unless they are an issue.
Yes you will need a fuel pump, a 16V or better one in fact. |

1.4 pump is not ok for standard lump, half the flow and just over half the pressure. It will run lean and melt. |

i'll get a pump anyway just to be on the safe side.
Few more questions for you intelligent renault retro's.
1) engine mounts, the engine i bought came with just one mount (the one near the exhaust manifold). will my 1.4 one's fit?
2) driveshafts... i wanna get the suspension and brakes up and running with my 1.4 first as its easier for me. can i put the 16v driveshafts into my 1.4rt gearbox?
3) wishbones and hubs? will i need to change these? it will be easier for me if i can just change the hub and keep my 1.4 wishbones. would that matter or do i need 16v wishbones?
4) anti-roll bar... Should i change these?
5) brakes... is it just a matter of changing the disks and calipers?
Thanks in advance again |

16v shafts are longer, but if you are using 16v wishbones etc it'll work.
Change the arb.
Just get 16v hubs, it'll be alot easier. |

yes it will all fit in the 1.4 box.
If you have the whole front end of a 16V why not just fit that and be done with it? |

I take it that the Clio use differant mounts for 1.4 and valver then, unlike the 19? |
