It seems that once you've had a Renault 19 16v you are devided into two groups. Group one wants rid, it cost too much, it was unreliable etc and move on. The second group, myself included, go out and buy another one!

Who's guilty of that on here? Chris, Wicked Neo (x10), Me, Huw, Neal, JB and many more no doubt...

But why?

For me, its:

Grin factor! The noise I guess, the bonnet vent, the fact that people look at it.

The looks, I like the way it looks and the fact when I was younger I always wanted one.

Mucho Fun for £, Cheap Cars, Cheap Spares!

But why else do you refuse to move on in the line of natural progression, or even like me move on and then come back! Discuss!

My laguna is so reliable i don't have to do anything with it except drive it, but its boring, the 19 is fun fun fun plus as you said, it does get looks, some people just don't know what it is when todays trend are for anything jap.

Ditto all of that, plus the fact that they have character and are quite unusual, well around my area they are anyway.

i love em...dunno why, the looks, the noise, the performance...the rarity (kinda)

the fact that it isnt a popular car makes it more appealing to me in a way.

the way you can surprise so many boy racers with it

plus more i guess

but yes it does give me grief.

Yeah I've pretty much always wanted one too. They are quite unique which is one of the main reasons I like 'em. I've had mine nearly 2 years and have probably only seen 5 or 6 other 16v's in real life on the road since then! And none of 'em have been 5 dr like mine. Not a lot of other cars you could own and say that. Well, a honda NSX would probably do it.......but can't exactly afford to buy & insure one of those!

Another thing about them, and one I don't really understand, is why are they so unkown? All of my mates are so impressed with how quick it is etc, cuz before I got it they were all like "Renault 19? Why do you want a Renault 19? They are shit!" and I was like "yeah, of course they are! Rolling Eyes " what little they know!

I also like the way people are impressed by it. People that get into it for the first time are always like "wow, nice car, what do you do again?" as if they think it's really expensive lol. EVERYONE comments on the leather aswell lol. "OOOooohhh leather!!" Laughing

I remember walking to uni once & I heard this car come roaring up the hill behind me and when it went past it was a Williams clio. That did sound beautiful!

The fact that it was a Renault helped Laughing

I bought my 1st black ph2 1916v in 1996 in Ballymoney, Northern Ireland,
and it was like nothing else on the road at the time (and still is'nt) iv always liked driving a car that i know im not gonna see coming the other way, and having folk always gathering round and commenting on how nice a car they are helped aswell Cool also it was the vent i fell in love with, it was soo in yer face and the seats are excellent, but they needed to be as the car handled as though it was on rails, the looks i used to get whilst driving it where brilliant, and i have to say that 1 or 2 of my ex g/f's came about cause of that 1916v Wink

I once remember sitting in a cafe with some mates and some chap came in and asked who owned the black 1916v parked outside, he spent ages asking all sorts as he was thinking about getting one Cool thats when you know you've got THE right car lolol Laughing

infact even 9 yrs later i still get people commenting on how nice that car was and i should never have gotten rid of it ......... tell me about it, did'nt have a choice though Rolling Eyes
