well im on my mums laptop the now.

the main pc has gone arse up.

1st it started sayingsystem memory fail on a loop nothing else happened.

so I got my cousin to bring down a new ram stick, no change.

go buy a new mobo, same model but the newer version asus A7V8X-X.

so fit that and now it turned on and went into bios.

however it then cut out, now once every 100 turn ons i can get the bios back. also the master dvd drive will not respond unless I unplug the ribbon then it will, but if i turn it off and put the ribbon back in then restart it will work Confused

however bios won't.

any ideas?

well now i have used another power supply the thing turns on every time.

only only freezes in the bios when I enterthe hardware monitor, you knwo where it tells you the temps etc.

I turn it on and the screen come sup with press tab to show post screen; press alt + f2 to enter EZ flash utility.

tab works and enters the next screen then del gets inot the bios.

alt + f2 do nothing.

in the post screen it says, award plug and play BIOS ext v1.0A
initialize plug and play cards...
PNP Init completed
_ flashign underscore

I can't type anything though

but hitting del enters bios

If it's not getting past the post screen it shouldn't be a registry issue as the bios has not accessed the boot sector yet.

have you disconnected everything apart from the CPU, RAM, monitor and mouse / keyboard? i.e. running it bare.

From what you have said sounds like you have pretty much changed everything apart from the CPU...though make sure you start as above and then add things in one at a time to eliminate.

Have you checked the jumper settings for the new mobo?

all the jumper settings are the same as the old mobo.

i checked them carefully with the manual's to double check before I powered up.

The HDD light will probably just be connected the wrong way. And if it hangs in the bios does it hang and keep displaying the bios or will you get a black screen? If it's keeps the screen it can be a few things.

1: bug in the bios try flashing (do it by floppy or cd).
2: your cpu is pretty much f*cked (check for the core to be damaged (very very little pieces broken of)).
3: motherboard not oke.
4: psu

If you get it to start sometime get a cd containing memtest86+ 1.65 and/or quicktech pro 5.51 to check all pc components you will find the problem. These programs will boot from cd or floppy so no os required.

And by the way don't buy Asus again!!! I never had more problems then with asus and i run a computer shop chain for 3 years now and i have worked as a pc technician the 4 years before that.

when it freezes in the bios it shows the bios page, it doesn;t change.

PSU got changed and thats the reason it now starts up and runs fine each time whereas before the hd wasn't, I will reverse the hd plug and try again.
