Right time for a list of things that need attention on the 19:
Oil leak
Rear ride height too high
Tatty bodywork
Exhaust mis-aligned with recess in bumper
Exhaust knocking on chassis
I'm sure there's more things to go on the list which I'll add as soon as I remember/discover them! |

Well been a while since I updated this thread!
Anyway, yesterday the car had a new 205/40 17" Toyo fitted and the tracking checked which was a mile out!
£99.25 later and the job was a good 'un. |

how did you fit 21 turbo brakes?
I assume you machined down 21t hubs and used them then? |

I'm assuming he means the 19 16v calipers I gave him, and since you say that they are the same calipers as some 21 Turbos, he's calling them 21 Turbo brakes as it sounds better. |

Out of interest will the 280mm caliper carriers fit a 19 GTS? I assume not since Chris speaks of machining down hubs etc? |

not sure if they will fit.
The discs are 5 stud though thats why you need to machine hubs |

you use 21 TXI discs which are the same as 21T discs but 4x100.
Discs are 285mm, not 280mm
also, the carrier wont bolt straight on. |

Mmmm. Just asking because these new brakes don't feel like much of an improvement over the 1.4 brakes to be honest!
Also, having looked at the brake specs on the Peugeot V6 they use 305mm discs but they do weigh a lot more than what a 19 V6 would in my estimation.... so still need to be looking for brakes pushing 300mm in diameter really.
Any other caliper carriers/calipers from other cars that will bolt on or am I limited to just the 19/Clio 16v/Williams calipers/brackets I've already fitted? |

Well sod any worries I had about brakes - some bad boys have arrived in the form of 325mm slotted vented discs and BILLET 4 pot calipers from Chet!
They're fecking massive!
These of course are in anticipation of the V6 engine transplant. A bit of research I did into the brake setup of the Pug 406 the engine's coming out of showed that it uses 305mm discs.
Now it doesn't take a mathematician to work out that 305 minus 259 leaves quite a fair bit of difference! The day after I found out this info also turned out to be the day I found out Chet had these for sale!
So the finer details were sorted out and the brakes came home last week when Chet was over in the UK.
Engine comes home Saturday, you can check the V6 conversion thread for all the information on the conversion!
Can't wait to get started. |

Right well due to the Clio fecking up AGAIN the 19 has been brought back into active service temporarily.
For this I had to fit a new pair of sidelight and headlight bulbs, at a grand total of £15.
Also noticed that the fabled oil leak is getting worse, the oil level has dropped from the max notch on the dipstick to the min notch in ~ 6 weeks.
Oil drips from under the sump, so it might just be the sump plug needs nipping up a bit. Might take a look tomorrow.
Either way, I don't think there's a lot of life left in the E6J. I can't complain though, it's scaled the length and breadth of the UK in the 7 years it's been in the family without so much as a service, and it's been worked hard and used daily! Not bad for a 16 year old car.
Can't wait to treat it to it's new engine. Gonna be mint. |
