16V cooling system

as the cooling system was too rusty when i bought the car ,i used a cleaning agent in the system for couple days and had the whole system flushed (the guy in the garage siad they will use pressurised water ) does it clean the crap from the matrix too ??? or is there another way to clean the matrix without taking it out ?

pressurised water filling means a hosepipe or something. It need to be vacuum filled.

A decent outfit will have suitable tools and basically when changing the coolant they should pressure test the system to make sure theres no leaks, if they find any rectify them assumign customers consent.

Then they bring the system down to a vacuum then fill with the coolant. This in theory means no air in the system only liquid.

Anyway to flush the matrix, take off the hose at the header tank and the hose to the engine, stick hose in the pipe and flush it through, then do it the other way.

When filling the system again what I done and in my case never worked was slowly fillt he matrix up with water from the hose to try and purge the air out then reconnect the hoses and fill the system in the usual way.

who has a 16V with the renault oil cooler sandwich plate like JB's progress report engine?

I don't have one just a loop of coolant hose witha restrictor in it.

I dont have one either, also, Chris you mentioned about the crap rad in the 16v, is it possible to stick a diesel one in? Don't see why it wouldnt, would it be worth it though?

However there is a hose issue that I am yet to work out unless you bit the aux water pump.

Yes a blue plastic bag stuffed into the vent.

Theory is vent will not force air into the bay thus overstuffing it so it should in theory make the engine bay run a lower pressure thus outside air in front of the rad will move easier through it.

well the plastic bag made no measureable difference to the running temp. It did however stop so much water sitting on top of my plug sheild thingy.

When the cars run normally its ok. If you give it a bit of a thrashing the temp stays decent but when you open the bonnet the header tank fills right up to near enough the cap.

Hold up the header tank and big gobs of air run out of the matrix hose. Thing is to get the most air out you need the engine running, if you lift it up and hold it wrong the air gets sucked straight down the other pipe back into the engine.

Theres a definate knack to it.

Today I also unbolted the radiator and pivot it up so the top hose actually runs upwards and the bleed nipple is thus at the top. Managed top get a good bit of air out after a short run and letting the fan kick in.

So it looks ok today we shall see tomorrow though.
