well after that last message I went out rad back in coolant topped up, started it again, no battery light at all. Revved it no light. Checked the battery yep no alt charging.

So I am not happy. So the orion was the chariot to the pub to meet the family.

Had fish and chips, pretty crap and I remembered why I don't like going places with my loud family. They irritate me.

So I am hoping its just a blown bulb now but with my luck it won't be, but if it is and replacing it sorts the charging out I will be happy.

Arse feck bugger

had the dash display out tested the bulbs they are all fine.

Got a phone call about the orion, some guy and some women came, the woman checked the car out then they said it was to rusty and it needed new tyres all round! Never even went in the car or anything!

Arseholes.

hmmmmmmmmmmm

just plugged in the dodgy alt, gypo style. dash plug into the brush pack and a pair of jump leads direct to the battery on the alt posts.

Lght comes on now. I don't have a spare person or I would rotate the alt to see if the light goes out. When I do that.

So that leaves a couple off possibilties, the brush pack thats got the nice long brushes is dodgy or the alts diodes have blown or the eartsh dodgy.

Thing is with a multimeter there no resistance so it should be fine. I also checked the wiring from the brush pack to the engine loom plug, its fine as well. And this is backed up by the fact when the other alt's plugged in the light comes on as it should. Will try a jump lead direct to the neg and see what happens on the existing alt, then if that doesn't work out it comes again and I will swap the brush packs back and see what happens if no joy I will have to get another alternator.

well the things running again. Batt lights off until you hit high revs where it stays o for a while. But the brushes are worn away to nothing haynes says min 5mm I measure mine at 3.

So I need to find a brush box from somewhere.

well.........

got the regulator off the 1.4 alt, had to drill the screw out then arse around with it. I fitted a new ring terminal to it as per usual the old one was broken.

I wrote down the numbers on it and checked the resistance so I have it all written down.

Went outside and started the beast, alt lights on all the time now so theres no charge at all, backed up by the multi meter.

Its pissing down heavily so I can't whip the alt back out again to check things over between the regulators.

This reg is a valeo effort and plenty of brush length left so if it doesn't work then the alt's duff.

And a certain someone can just buy me a new one cos I'm lovely.
