coolant in the head when the engine stops gets rather hot indeed, when the pump start circulating it the temp drops a good 10/20 degrees |

one more cooling related question:
when the engine is hot the coolant level drops from max to halfway between max and min. If i (carefully) open the cap the coolant rises back to its original level. Is this the pressure system at work? I would have thought that for the level to go down, air has to either come in somewhere or be present in the system and be pushed to the expansion tank, released when I open the cap? Maybe I just haven't fuilly bled the cooling system yet, but curious to see ifthere is any theory behind it! |

when you release the pressure the coolant expands due to it boiling so it forms steam pockets around the head thus causing localised overheating. |
