well I have been about 4 fecking hours trying to get the old chip out. Nearly there but feck knows if its gonna work again.
If you don't have a chip de-solderer thingy (block attachment then don't even try it it, I have been levering mine off with tweezers and a screw driver and its been nearly boundced off the walls a few times.
And the solder suckers don't fecking work either, I went out and bought anothe rone which was a waste of time as it only get the initial blob away but not the stuff that holds it in. |

whats the state of the PCB now Chris ?
if you want, post me the board and chip and i'll try to make amends.
there is a knack in unsoldering a 28pin chip.
two ways of doing it, one is doing each pin in turn, soldering iron tip to underneath the board, add more solder to get it flowing then soldersucker right slap bang over pin whilst iron is still on the pin and up it sucks.
2nd way is trickier but faster lol
run the soldering iron along all the pins on side of the chip, keep it moving, add solder so the whole row is flowing and when nice and hot flick the board, all the solder comes flying off lol.
best to do this outside thou as it can cause a bit of a mess.
when both sides are done the chip will still be on the board cos of the hotglue used to keep it in place, hairdryer on that to melt the glue and prise it off. |

I had a look at the bounced board and after clipping bits back on it looked ok so I gave it another go, half fitted the socket in then it fell and then it broke properly, damn slate tiles. |
