Get yourself a little program called HiJackThis, it's a registry scanner and it tags every entry and tells you whether or not it should be there. You can also save the state of the registry so if you get rid of sommets important then you can revert back to an earlier version.
A lot of the bugs you have will implant themselves into the registry, not just random folders on the HDD. |

I use AVG Free too, also Zonealarm and Spybot Search and Destroy does the job for spyware for me. Have never had problems since I started using those 3 and neither have any friends or family who use them either. |

Really? I find Zonalarm to be a pain to start with but once you've had it for a while and told it everything to not block it's great. |

Adaware is also free JB and much better than A2, althoug I have to admit on one machine I was working on A2 got rid of somthing the others couldnt.
Alexa is harmless dont worry about it, you'll find that on a clean install.
Hijackthis is a very uselfull tool, provided you know how to use it. Spybot search and destroy usually catches what Adaware doesnt.
Sounds like Chris H has one annoying peice of spyware that has littered itself everywhere and is going to be tough to remove. Could you possibly download, run and post a copy of the Hijack this log? |

F8 still works in XP, you just get slightly different options. |
