more broken 19's u mean lol
the chammy is still at bladeys . . .
Mals and i get up there, bladey whacks a battery on it and it starts up, purring like a kitten, its not been run for about 3 months so we leave it idleing whilst we do the paperwork, sort the cash and have a coffee.
time to drive it home, into reverse and she stalls, turn key, refuses to start, nothing, just like a dead battery.
So we try to jump start it, starter hardly turns, check batt connections and the earth is loose, tighten it up, leave it on jump leads for a few mins, try to start it . . dead.
so we push it onto the road and try bumping it, it goes on the 3rd bump but now wont idle, take foot off throttle and she dies.
Bump it again and hold it at 1500 rpm.
ok lets try to get it home, pull away and off up the hill and a god damn loud rattle comes in at the high revs, let the rpm drop and she stalls.
still wont start on the key.
Yet before all of this when we first started it, it idled fine, no rattle when u gave it a rev.
decided to let it stay there overnight and go back tomorrow to check it out in daylight. |

oils drained from the head will take a while to re-circulate, while as in up to 20 mins idling.
Battery will be drainign the alt big style, wouldn;t be surprised if the batt light was flickign when you revved it. Charge another battery and use that instead. |

nope, the battery light was not flickering at all, it was getting dark whilst we were doing this so the batt light was easy to see.
I have another battery on charge which i will be taking up with me tonight, also a spare starter, alt and ICV. |

Oh what fun we had, well I lost 3 stone from bump starting the car anyway so thats nice, the car looks great though, even if it wont start at the mo, another bargain purchase! Neo forgot to mention the fun we had getting there. Travelled about all over Essex till we found the right road, dodging all the Speed camaras, good laugh though. Neo enjoyed the drive!
And when we were trying to get the chammy to idle revving at about 3000rpm oh how we laughed! The neighbours seemed interested and supportful too at 11pm, coz when we got it down the road there was a guy shouting from his window, "hurry up and get that piece of shit going", how helpful
Anyway, Neo you got it sorted yet? |

lol and I got a phone call about it and txt's!
deffo a lifter noise at idle and same with at higher revs.
I reckon either lifters are blocked or the springs gone in em. get some of that wynns stuff again neo for it.
he also said the alt's away and it might be rattling |

well its defo not charging the battery.
put on a fully charged battery last night and she started first time on the key
i let it idle for 20 mins (yes it idles on a full charged battery)
under 3000 rpm there is no rattles, a very slight tappet noise but that is to be expected.
take it over 3000 rpm and there is a loud knocking noise.
so there has to be either a dodgy alt or dodgy earth/wiring in there somewhere because after 20 mins, the battery was almost flat, the car is running off the battery, not power from the alt.
i had a good look at the cabling last night and it all looked intact and everything wired up, same with the starter. the earth from the body to the neg on the battery is in good condition too.
The batt light on the dash is not illuminated at all whilst the car is running.
I just have a feeling that maybe the alt bearings are shot, hence the loud rattle over 3000 rpm and why its not charging the battery.
Chris suggested in txt last night to take off the alt belt and run it over 3000 rpm to see if the noise went but sadly by that time, the batt was flat, it would not jump either and fecked if i am trying to bump it by myself lol
and it is still outside bladeys lol
fancy towing it back on saturday Mals ? i will get one of those metal towing bars, not a rope cos the hand brake is not connected up hehe |
