I'm not a fan of these myself as a well placed induction kit will do exactly the same. I'm sure that Carbon Fiber will at some point start to conduct heat as does plastics and mild/stainless steel but the temps we are talking Vs the volume of air flowing really blows the argument for spending close on Â£300 away.

Obviously if you just stick an IK on an enclosed TB you're not going to do anything bar draw in the engine bays ambient air even if you feed it with a 50mm Dia "Feed" because the pipe cannot flow enough air to cool the entire area (The calculation of U-Values when looking at thermal losses in building construction materials is a pretty similar theory). However move the IK away from the heat source and sheild your flow to the TB and you infact create a self cooling duct which operates much like an intercooler.

To be fair, millions of Euro's are invested each year by the manufacturers in designing optimum air feed systems for their cars that I seriously doubt any "Off the self, universal bolt on" will better the original air box design.

Yeah, I was bored a while back and was gonna put the standard air box back on the other day and go for a spin to see if I could notice a difference, but I can't find the damn bracket for it so I can't fir it in the car anymore Confused

so yeah, couldn't try it. I put my old K&N back on instead of the pipercross and went for a spin and the K&N is DEFINITELY worse than the pipercross. I've added loads of cold air feeds (that probably do bugger all) and haven't really noticed a difference from them, and yeah I don't really wanna spend Â£99 on that thing cuz I ain't gonna get Â£99 worth of difference out of it. Probably won't even notice a difference at all to be honest. Apart from the noise maybe

I've not got a picture of it yet but I got a bit of 100mm Dia SS tube bent and i've relocated Leanne's PiperX IK behind the passenger front fog and routed the pipe directly to the TB and it's a completly different animal now.

I also agree with PiperX being much better than K&N. Maybe it's the foam?

Not sure about the materials. I don't know enough about them really. They all bang on about why their material is the best. Read the K&N box and it goes on about why cotton is the best etc, and then read the Pipercross box and it's sayin how foam is the best. So who knows. Not me! Yeah I wanna try and relocate my filter down by the foglight. I reckon that's the cheapest and best option to do. I just gotta find a pipe to go down there like.

Go to your nearest steel merchant rather than trying to buy an off the shelf pipe from an auto factor. Leanne's cost me Â£20 to buy, cut to length, bend and fit. The only other thing I bought was the air box to TB rubber connection from a V6 Peugeot 406 as they have a huge TB meaning I didn't have to reduce the pipe diameter. Oh and the car makes an even meaner sound to which is nice Cool

thats a simple thing i have done on the black rt a while ago ,did not cost me a penny due to the pipe being free,i can say it improved the pull a noticable bit . and did not get around improving the idea .
note that the kinks on the pipe doesnot help much but the fact that its covering the whole airfilter helps reduce heat i believe

So you've got rid of the original renault pipe that comes off the throttle body? Or have I miss-understood? You'll hav to get pics if you can Mick, this sounds rather interesting! Very Happy

that car is a 1.8 rt thus the reanult pipe is there but different.

thats a pipercross filter hidden in the pipe ,its crap comapring to the 15quid ebay one on the chamade

i think i have said before, if you have an enclosed system like that in schaks pictures, if the seal is adequate enough you could end up sucking in a whole lot of water if u go thru a deep puddle like a hoover and fuck your engine.

yep. that aswell as the filter ill get alot dirtier quiker as its sucking up all the dirt and stuff from the road, rather than just a little bit of it.
