I disagree with Chris saying the ph2 looks like a 1.4 with a bonnet vent stuck on. You can tell it's not an 'ordinary' 19, in much the same way you can tell the ph1 isn't either. They are both noticeably 'beefier' than the smaller engine ones I think. Wider tyres, they look lower, more aggressive etc.

I love the 'angularness' of the ph1, and also the standard alloys......I think they are just such good looking cars standard. Same for the ph2, I think they look lush standard with the standard alloys. Both bloody good lookin cars, but I think the ph2 gets the edge for me. I rather the front end.......the headlights are much nicer shape, the vent is much nicer, etc. I rather the back aswell really. Not too much difference from the sides other than the skirts........but yeah overall the ph2 gets it for me.

Nobody's gonna agree with me on this one.........but I think the ph2 looks 'meaner' than the ph1 to be honest Shocked

lol theres no point in arguing with you, even the boys on the meet agreed their ph2's looked like every 1.4 etc on the street with a stuck on halfords vent.

They said that about their own cars!? How can you think that lowly of your own car......and at the same time like it enough to go to meets etc?! Silly buggers! Rolling Eyes

I can sort of see your point. I've probably mentioned this before, but my parents used to have a midnight blue R19 1.4RT, and then I got my 16v at the same time as they got rid of that and got a megane.......so all of my parent's friends thought I had got hold of their old 19 and stuck the vent & stuff on and 'boy-racered' it up lol. Which kinda proves ur point..........but we're talking about people who know nothing about cars here. Like a mondeo would look like an R19 to them, if it was blue! So doesn't really count Razz

Even when I do get a valver we will still have the 1.4 19 as my Mum wants it back instead of her Rover.

Sounds sad, but I don't want it going to some dick head who will smack it and scrap it, I'd be gutted, but unleast I can look after it if Mother has it! Very Happy

I agreed that the vent looked more aftermarket on the p2 yes, but that doesn't mean I agreed that the p2 looks like 1.4 Confused

Exactly, and it doesn't look like a 16v - although, to the uninformed it might do. PH2 Have twin headlamps, painted bumper tops, splitter, 449 Sports Blue was a valver only colour etc.

My personal opnion on Valvers is, unless its one owner full dealer/specialist history a very late N plate with leather 12mts ticket and all the toys, sub 100k with a recent cambelt/tensioner under its belt and maybe a clutch/gearbox/headgasket (although in theory if its really been looked after it shouldn't have needed them) then I wouldn't pay £1000. Theres only been one valver that fitted that bill in the 3 years I've been into the cars and that was the Silver 3dr Exec I talked about in General Chat a few months ago.

But even then, its a Valver - its going to go wrong. I don't think thats up for debate, so just try and get one thats as cheap as possible and in good condition and work up from there, because if you spend £1k it probably won't cost you any less in repairs / running costs then a £300 one.

There are some real bargins to be had on eBay, so just keep your eyes pealed for one coming up local, go over and give it a good look over - I'm sure we can all tell you what to look for and owning a Renault 19 you already have a head start.

What about mine? Wink Or Neals? Probably more 'honest' cars then one from a stranger.

lol I know the differences and i struggle, only sure way I find is the top of the bumpers.

why would a full dealer history make it better than say mine?

The white chamades been off the road for 5 years, I have done a shitload of work to it to get it safe and in fact just today I have put proper rear dampers on it.

I can bet anything that the white cars gonna be better than 90% out there that others have owned.

It wouldn't necessarily make its physical condition any better then any other car on the road, but its percieved value it would add would make the car easier to resell (if not resell for more) as its something people look for and probably quite rare in Valvers now. Most of us would instead go by the condition / state of the owner.

But the point I'm making is to me it would have to be something special to be worth spending a grand on.

like i already said, having owned ph1 and ph2 valvers my prefrence is the ph2 and i agree with Simon, the ph2 does not look like a 1.4 with a bonnet vent, it really does look more aggresive than the standard 19s.

I just find the ph2 valver more astheticly pleasing to the eye than the ph1, it looks 'cleaner'

its very rare to actually see a ph2 without the skirts and spoiler of the 16V.

thus they all look the same.
