I went to court some years ago faced with dangerous driving and speeding charges.
I don't really mind receiving what is due to me but the cop lied in his statement about two things:
1) He mixed up the answer to one of my questions with another one. Idiot.
2) He gave the speed that the police car was going at before I overtook (in the fog!) as being 45mph whereas in reality it was 55mph. So this made me look like the speed I was doing (70 mph) was way in excess of a safe speed. Scum.
BTW. A-road, also I was an 'R driver' (NI only) with a speed restriction of 45 mph.
When I was pulled in he said he was doing me for speeding and careless driving.
The summons came and it said speeding and dangerous driving.
Thankfully we got a good barrister and got the thing back down to careless driving.
None of the mistakes he made in the statement had anything to do with reducing the charge.
I have seen this before (and since). They will twist, lie and fabricate things to secure a conviction. Knowing that the judge will believe them unless the victim can prove otherwise.
I am speaking generally here, I'm sure there are a few exceptions. |
