Mine was sounding real bad the other day when frosty, which is what made me do the oil change.
Been loads better after putting that Comma synthetic stuff in there.

Wanted to see the difference between the old and new so left a bit of each in a jar outside in the frost.
The old castrol stuff turned thick as treacle but the comma stayed a lot thinner.
I know the comma is 10w40 and the old castrol 15w40 but i wasn't expecting that much of a difference.

Chris, I'm using Castrol GTX High Mileage, which is 15w40, and just a halfords oil filter. I reckon ur gonna tell me my oil is part of the problem cuz I know you think it's crap! That's why I'm interested in that Comma stuff you were all on about the other day. I'll give that a go next time I change me oil methinks

Noticed something today, but it could just be coincidence rather than actually meaning something.......

The car park at work is on a slope, and I usually reverse into me parking space so the car is pointing up hill, and whenever I start it to come home at night, it's really tappety for pretty much the whole 5 min journey home. But today, I just drove straight into me space forwards, so the car was pointing down the hill. Came to start the car to come home........and about 0.5 seconds of tapps as it started like, and then smooth straight away.

So car sat facing up hill all day and it sounds rough when I start it, and car facing down hill all day and it's smooth when I start it Confused hmmm.

Could this mean I possibly got some kinda oil delivery problem and the fact that the oil had been sat in a different place made it easier for the pump or something? Or shall I stop talkin crap & shut up now Laughing lol

simon, you always have a comment at the end of your posts about you talking crap, there's no need for it, everyone can have ideas or ask questions, it doesn't mean they're talking crap...

In response to this question, I don't know... park downhill a few more times, then start parking the other way again, see if it's consistant

Cheers Neal, but most of the time I am talking crap! Yeah, I'll park the other way again tomorrow and see if it was a fluke. Another thing, the night I parked facing down the hill (when it started smooth) was the coldest night in AGES, and my tappets are usually worse the colder it gets. It was so cold, at 5:30pm when I finished work, my drivers door was frozen shut lol. Damn I love having no heaters in this weather! Rolling Eyes

Okay, tried parking facing down the hill again today and she was smooth starting up again. So I'd say that confirms that it does make a difference and it wasn't a fluke! It doesn't mean there's anything wrong with me oil pump or anything tho do ya reckon? Just something that 'happens' like

well I don't cuz I been experimenting this past week since I discovered it lol. Park one way and I can guarantee it'll be noisy, park the other way and it's smooth. Every time. Did it today aswell.

Thinkin about it, maybe I do have some kinda problem then? So parking different ways will affect my car, but will not affect everybody else's. Who knows!

only time the way i parked up or down a hill affected one of my cars was on a Mk3 Escort XR3i i had.
and that was only if it had less than £5 worth of fuel in it, park it facing uphill and it would not start cos the fuel pump could not pump the fuel, heh
so turn it around and it would be fine.
