they work a bit like HESH (High Explosive Squash Head) and again are designed for killing rats & pigeons

I've got a .177 Webley Tempest, good for shooting birds.

i sold my rifel ages ago.

was costing to much to keep, rounds were to expensive. cabernet was massive, people have to come and check it range prices were stupidly high etc etc

decided that i really didnt need it.

and ive not been very active latly, working stupid long hours 5 days a week, and car is off road so nothing to talk about involving that.

still, no more overtime as of thurs! hurray!

Trouble with my Webley is birds are dead meat but if I shoot a squirrel or something in a tree, I have to rely on the fall to kill/fatally injure it. Not ideal really.

I have a .22 rifle. As it has a range of 2 miles, it cannot be used to shoot birds etc. So I have to be careful that the target is between me and a hill.
So in that sense it isn't quite as useful as an air rifle.

I went into the gun shop a while ago and bought 1000 bullets for it, the guy was looking at me a bit funny afterwards...

Why can't you use it to shoot birds?

Stray bullets if I hit or miss, as a bird wouldn't even slow it down.
There must be something to absorb the bullet after it passes the target.
A bird would likely be in a tree or flying overhead, so the bullet could land anywhere.
The shotgun is the machine for that job.

2 mile range out of a 22?!?

and yes it was a .22

mag fed bolt action. had quite a kick in it too!

how ever the pin that pulls back the empty shell was was bent out so it never ejected properly.

had to keep bending it back.
