A couple of points:

I would'nt blame the goverment, this type of stuff has been happening in Britain for years, anyone remember the IRA ??? its very hard to win when the enemy dont wear a uniform, if someone wants to strap and conceal a bomb to themselves and are willing to kill themselves then there's not much anybody is gonna do about it, and unfortunatly the law WILL NOT protect the security services if they shoot someone down and it turns out to be a bad decision (anyone remember the SAS in Gibralter who shot the IRA just as they where gonna detonate a bomb amd kill innocent public people, the SAS soldiers got taken to court for gods sake )
When we where in Northern Ireland on patrols we where always told that if we shot a terrorist before he committted the crime then we would get charged as he had not actually committed an offence at this piont, and if we shot him after he had committed the act then we would still get charged as he had already committed the crime so you where not gonna stop the crime now as he had already committed it ....so we would have been better of not carrying bloody rifle's for gods sake,
Private Lee Clegg shot and killed a man after he drove at him at an Army check point in NI, and what did Lee Clegg get ?? tried in a court and sent to fookin jail for 25yrs ???? but after a few years got released after an appeal, i could go on,

The government has usually tred on someone's toes to create these situations whether it be to expand its empire, seemingly liberate a country to acqure more control over resources e.g. Oil.
The goverment could be envading (liberating) someones home town and this is their way of getting back at the envaders.
As far as I'm aware the IRA never resorted to sucide bombing, the reason given was that they would loose support for their campain.
I wasn't aware that soldiers could not shoot a terrorist that was obivously about to murder, it certianly would have cleaned the place up a bit. It would been open to abuse I suppose, which is probably not a good idea, but the alternative isn't great either. Take your pick.
One thing I'll say is that there wasn't half enough of them shot (or perferrably imprisoned, never to see the light of day).
The leader of IRA/Sinn Fein - Gerry Adams gave his "Sympathy" to Londoners after Thursday's bombings, this came after 30 years of the IRA's bombings and murders of British citizens...
The IRA planted more bombs in London than any other group. (Canary Wharf 1996, Warrington 1993, etc.)
It is beyond belief that this terrorist can be so hypocritical. he hasn't changed his agenda one bit.

The goverment try to make things harder for the terrorist but the "doo gooders" out there start crying "thats an infringment on our human rights" and all that pish, just like they are doing with the ID cards, i thinks we should all get an ID card, it might not save the world but every little helps, and if you've got nothing to hide then whats the problem ?? at the end of the day we are living in changing times where terrorists are getting smarter and "playing the system" and if the goverment has got to do some things that piss people off to keep the public safe, then so be it.
We never hear about the secret raids and countless hours of work our security forces do and the lives that they have saved so far that we just dont hear about, but as soon as one gets through the net then suddenly everyone becomes an expert, with the "Rules of engagement" that all our security forces (Army, Police etc) are faced with and the shit they get if they get it wrong, i think they are doing a great ...but unfortunatly thankless job. |
"if you've got nothing to hide then whats the problem ??"
Everyone has something to hide, however setting that aside, say that the law was such that it didn't volate human rights, we are all very happy to accept ID cards, then companies/government etc. see that this is a very good way to keep track of your movements/tastes/bank balance/library books/drinking habits/food preferences/qualifications/driving record/benefits/travelling/spending (Iinc VISA)etc. people can then monitored from the cradle to the grave as if they were on parole from prision.
If you are happy enough with that then, say the govenment was to change a few laws that for example aligned the UK with the US Patroit Act, this would then mean that representives from the government could enter your home without a search warrant, go through all your stuff, order you never to tell anyone that they were there, arrest you without telling you the charges and hold you indefinately without trial.
You may object to this.
If you did then the government would already know your habits, circles of friends, psycological makup etc. and would be able to easily locate you as you would be giving away your location every time you bought something with what was initially your ID card but has evolved into a "Universal Card" as they "look out you for you and your interests" so that it is handy for you to only carry one card. And as shown, you could disappear and never be seen again.
How are you going to object then?
This is only an example of what can happen and no good will come of it, the terrorist thing is just a smoke screen for passing the legisation, same as Iraq was for the oil and a foothold to middle east. |

If i made it sound like the IRA did suicide bombings then thats not what i meant, if it was a battery controlled device then they where usually about 1/4 mile away and not even in direct sight of there target, they would use house lights etc as there signal, as for IRA suicide bombers, well it did happen afew times, but by mistake as the idiots set the bomb off by mistake when they where either making it or transporting it ...so i suppouse they where "suicide" bombers from a certain point of view
As for Gerry Adams, well, lets not get started on that tosser, i think we both agree on that one, sent his syspathy to the London'rs, what a bloody joke, that'll be the London'rs that he was bombing a few years ago then.
I can see where you are coming from on the ID front, but id like to think that the ID card was just your basic details, ie, name and address etc, when it starts going down the "Big Brother" route then thats a different story, it does'nt need to contain all the other details like bank stuff etc, and i would hope it did not come to that.
Totally agree with you on the foothold to the middle east, we went from trying to find Bin Laden, to invading Iraq .... since the worlds oil supply is due to start running out in 40-50 yrs time. it does not take much thought to work that one out. |
