From what i could gather the old starter motor may have been fine, as the exact same symtoms happened with the new starter motor,

I seem to remember before i cleaned the connectors i tried starting it with jump leads and she would not start, just clicked, and thats when i started to focus on the spade connectors,

Getting to the connectors is not to bad, just awkward, i did'nt need to take anything off, i just leaned over the engine and got to them that way, just make sure the manifold is cool Laughing(and the battery disconnected Shocked ) i dont know if its easier getting to them from underneath, maybe some else knows ?? i was always carrying out the job in a some carpark cause thats where it usually happened Mad Laughing

Make sure you get the metal bits that the spade connectors slide onto sparkling, after i used to do this my 1916v used to start perfectly, but it is strange how a small bit of grime can cause such a problem, or maybe it was the heat coming from the engine tarnishing the metal bits on the connectors over a period of time ?? Confused

up till now it makes a lot of sense ,i seem to be having exactly what you experienced ,apart from this once i jump started the fecking thing.
funny enough that was the first time its done it 4 days ago .

i starts up fine drives 3 miles to pick the missus up turn the engine off and after 2 minutes it would not start ,i had jump leads in the boot ,as soon as i connected them to both cars batteries ,i turn the key and it works straight away . since then its doing it everytime but i did not have another chance to try jump starting it ,so i had to push it jump inside as it catches some speed and start it up that way .

another thing is that i do not have any electrical tools to check the battery ,i know a few places do it for free (like feckin halfords) but i do have a funny feeling they might translate the readings in a way that would persuade me investing in a new battery ,obviously from them Smile

today i will clean the connectors as you said and have another go on starting her up . i can buy a battery straight away but if thats not the problem ,i will feel like a feckin muppet .
cheers for the info mate Smile

to be fair the halfords battery tester is a box you can buy, they come out and clip it on, you see them doing everything, if its knackered it says so, if its fine they say so to.

I have taken a few down and they have told me the truth.

a cell might be duff on the battery but tbh if it was the battery it would happen hot and cold

fair enough about halfords ,may be i need to have a bit more faith in them Smile

starter was packing up when its hot for 2 months now ,thats not new and is due to the missing shield.

but this is a new problem ,and it happens even after the car is parked up for 10 hours etc (cold)

can i say its deffo the battery ,if it starts with a jump start straight away ?????

also can aything be going wrong with the alternator ?????(connectors etc)

tbh I'd say the starters fecked like JB said before.

The white chamade has a 1.4 clio starter on it, it starts way better than ewven a new 16 starter gets them turning! smaller and lighter as well.

get down the scrappers and get a 1.4's, its a lot thinner so heat isn;t so much a problem as its further away from the exhaust.

lol ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ lol

my plans for today is to look at the ph2's electrics, funnily enough i have the exact same problem as schakal. (no not being gay but dodgy starting on the valver)

althou i believe its down to a dodgy earth somewhere, the starter motor should be fine, the car was only run 3 times without its heatsheild and not for any great distance.

just disconnected the battery and got it out of the tray for insection , all the cells have water in them above the plates and they all are the same level .
i dont know if thats low ????

inspected the starter (visually) all connectors are loking fine ,i just cant figure out that other motor lookalike thing by the side of the starter motor ,its a small motor ?????? what does it do ????

i have also seen 2 bolts holes under the 1st and 2nd branches of the zorst manifold that looks like the the ones for the starter heat shield .

no the starter bolts to the gearbox at the front with 3 16mm bolts, at the back theres meant to be a bracket which joins the block at the bottom and at the top to the exh manifold and the bracket for the starter heatshield forms part of it.

right i see ,no i dont have item 2 shown in neos picture ,fecky

what i have done just now , i found a donor car to jump start the chamade ,as soon as the leads are connected ,the car fires up nicely .
i also noticed ,the fuel pump was priming less lively before the jump start . now if the starter was fecked it would not start at all would it ???????????

do we all agree its time for a new battery ??????
