lol theres no point in arguing with you, even the boys on the meet agreed their ph2's looked like every 1.4 etc on the street with a stuck on halfords vent. |
Their idiots then

its very rare to actually see a ph2 without the skirts and spoiler of the 16V.
thus they all look the same. |
Shed loads of standard non spoilered/skirted 19's round here...most of abused to fek. |

All we have around here are 1.4's or TD's.
I can't remember the last time I saw a ph1/2 16v near me |

AFAIK Renault did a 'Sports' pack on PH2's which included 16v Skirts/Steering Wheel/Spoiler - which was then included in nearly all TD's.
Chris is right to a point, PH1 16v's are more distinctive because they were the only models to be given the skideskirts, chunky square bumpers, full width twin headlamps with indicators relocated to the bumper while the PH2's were more subtle. Also were the 16v's the only one to have smoked rear lights?
The only things given to a PH2 16v only were colour coded bumper tops, splitter, vent and twin headlamps. But those things alone are noticable far off, to me anyway.
Its a shame really, but thats cost saving for you. The Clio 16v's had a unique front bumper to the rest of the rance, shame they couldn't do the same for R19's. |

So....Now we have had a breif history and specs of the cars, which do you prefer?
Ph1 or Ph2??? For me I think it's going to be Phase 2 (or poo as Chris likes to call them) just because their alot less hard edged and I like the lights more |

i really despise the looks of the ph2 tbh as chris said the ph2 just looks like a 1.4 with a vent, but almost everything on the ph1 16v was changed from the 1.4

All you lot saying how much different the 'normal' ph1's are to the 16v's, whereas the ph2 16v is pretty much the same as the 'normal' ph2's.........well.......I kinda agreed with you on that by thinkin about it in my head.........so basically ur point was...........you see a ph1 16v and it's obvious that it's a 16v cuz they are so different from the 1.4 ph1, but you see a ph2 16v and ur not sure whether it's a 'real' one or a 1.4 with a vent on right? Cuz they look too similar?
Well.......like I said I would've been okay to agree with that a few days ago...........but that's until I drove past a ph1 16v on the weekend. Couldn't tell that it was a 16v until it was RIGHT infront of me about to go past, cuz that's only when I noticed the tiiinnnyyyy little slit of a bonnet vent......and that's about it! I see a ph2 comin and it just looks beastly. It's obviously a 'meaner' car than a 1.4 etc cuz it seems to sit low on the road & stuff y'know. But the ph1....just looked....well, normal to me.
I know that was as controvertial (can't spell that!) as when I said the ph2 looks beastlier than the ph1........but driving past that ph1 has just confirmed it for me! That was the first ph1 16v I've had the pleasure of driving past in my life, and I can honestly say it didn't look special at all, whereas when I see a ph2 16v comin in the other direction......they just look proper beastly
But that's probably just me!
Roddy & Chet both agree that a ph2 looks mean when it's in ur rear view mirror........so why not when it's on the road comin towards you aswell? |

Don't tell me if I saw a 16v or not, you're the one that has trouble telling a ph2 16v apart from a 1.4 with a vent |

yes cos it looks like a 1.4 with a vent on it.
A ph1 looks nothing like a ph1 16V.
Everything is different, the doors, sill, bumper, grille, spoiler, wheels, headlights etc etc.
Ph2 everything is the same, the vent is stuck on the bonnet, the ph1's only has a small bit above the bonnet line, the ph2 bumpers all look the same apart from the tops coloured and on the front theres a pathetic excuse for a splitter. The headlights are the same shape etc and ok the 16Vs are twins but the light output is still shit compared to a ph1 and unless your right up at it you can't tell the difference.
I don't why you all argue so much about this? Anybody with eyes can easily tell a ph1 16V apart from a 1.4, A ph2 16V and 1.4 will look the same to 99% of people. |

99% of people that have no interest in Renaults maybe yeah. Like my parents for example. Us lot however........I just don't understand how you can say they look similar!

The doors are different on a ph1? Well I don't know so I'm willing to give you that one lol. The sills? Yup, they're different on a ph2 aswell. The bumper? Yup, as you said urself, different on a ph2 aswell. Grille? Not sure I understand what a grille is then if the ph1 16v has a different one to a 1.4. Doh! Spoiler? 1.4 ph2's don't have spoilers. Well not around here anyway. Wheels? Um......do I even have to say it? Headlights? Well you just said that about them being twins etc on the ph2. But someone using the internal workings of headlights as an arguement to tell the difference between cars is gettin a bit desperate surely?! I am willing to be proved wrong if they do 'look' different in someway on a ph1. But last time I saw one, they didn't to me!
At the end of the day this is all a matter of opinion anyway. So there is no actual right or wrong to be arguing about! Some people rather ph2's (me), and some people rather ph1's (everyone else) lol.
I mean, I wouldn't own a ph2 if I rathered the ph1 would I |

No 99% of people who are in to cars, like when the boys were up peopel who are well into their cars asked where neals 1.4 had gone when he took it away.
ph1 16V doors don't have holes for the side trim.
Sills are the same on ph2 1.4 etc s as 90% of them have the bodykit.
Ph1 16V grille slat thing is plastic on a 1.4 etc its metal
spoilers, ph2 1.4s again 90% have the body kit the ph1 16V spoiler only came on the 16V, the other spoilers were different
ph1 16V headlights are full width twin units with the indicators in the bumper. non 16V's have the ph2 set up with them at the side, also its you ph2 owners who jump all over th eheadlights screaming the ph2 16Vs are twins when they look the same as the non 16V singles.
rear ph1 16V lights are smoked while non 16V's aren't.
The argumaent as always is the ph2 doesn't look different to a non 16V which it doesn't the phase 1 is completely different anybody with eyes can tell a ph1 16V and non 16V apart while on ph2's most will struggle. |
