Just got back from manchester, picked the cam belt kit up from work (got a mate to collect it) and the tensioner looks well different from the one on my car.

Just gonna grab some dinner and than i'll take a pic of that and the water pump.

cambelt kit - tensioner could be fine and me being a muppet as i've not removed the old one yet

they are the right ones dont worry...good luck with the idler, its a bitch to get at

bits are right but the water pump is the crap renault one.

Closed back cast impellars are superior in that they don't cavitate at a low rpm and they pump better.

Your not wrong there ! what a bitch it was getting it off!

OK job is done, as you know the tensioner was knackered, the idle pully was ok but changed it anyway, got the new belt on and checked timing.

It appears that the rattle i was getting was the cams . .

The old belt was so loose from the tensioner being knackered, the cams were jumping all over the place, lol, in fact i would say i was lucky that the belt did not jump off the cam pullys.

right gonna clean up and take her for a drive

well done for gettin it off..i was not so lucky...bolts corroded beyond hope, so it has to await engine out

Aye its a pain the idler in situ, usually the bolts are seized on the cover so you need to struggle with the cover still in place.

I'm struggling with my rear engine mount the now. I have been out there for about 2 hours now.

Can I get the bracket out can I fuck. Stupid thing, I replaced the mount when I 1st got the car no bother, I nmust have become super thick since then as I can't get the bracket out, all I need to do it get the bracket out.

Used the trolley jack, engine hoist and all sorts last tiem all I had was the scissor jack and done it inside an hour. Same car same mount why the fucking problem?

gettign really pissed off. Tried to get the starter out to get a bit more room, so heatshield off but the rear brackets on it and to get to it with a collapsed rear mount means driveshafts out which means lowering the car back to the ground etc.

Gettign mightily fucked off with it.

Also the engine hoist scraped the inside of the bonnet and the front plate/bumper.

Ok, back from a 50 mile round trip and the car is running loverrrrly!

Top marks to Chris H for diagnosing the tensioner in the first place before i took the top cover off and checked it out.

Sorry to hear about the troubles you are having thou Chris Sad

right next jobs, water leak and balljoint on the phase 1 and both cars should be sorted for a few more miles Smile

fecking heap o crap mine.

Glad its sorted and glad I was right!

Balljoints an easy job, top tip if the balljoint won't release from the carrier use a small cold chisel to open up the slot.

i traced this bolt in dialogys ,it happens to be a spacer and even after the timing belt tensioner change ,those ferkers have used it as a timing belt cover bolt Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad
would this cause me problems now ?

thats exactly what it is, a spacer.
as Chris pointed out, it sits between the 2 pullys on the DOHC 16 valve as shown in my pic

it should not cause you any problems except from your top photo looks a very loose fit so the cover may rattle about a bit.
i would nip down the scrappie with a 10mm spanner and go take off the proper bolts from a scrapped 19.

Chris can confirm this, but that spacer may be used on your engine under the cover, thats what it's on my engine for, just to screw in one of the top cover bolts.
