i like some of the mods mick tthe meagane dash i dont (nothing personal, just an opinion) love the front end and the rest of the bodywork also might be being stupid but i cant see the gearbox? was it in at the time? and is it an easy conversion todo (price wise) than willy spec'n the 19 lump?

Yeah the Meggy dash is an aquired taste I say but so is the head light setup. Some people like yourself, Chris and some others don't like the dash as it's a crap layout. I have to agree that the layout is shite and you can't find the hazzard button fast enough in an emergency but I think it adds a modern feel to the car and the clockset is so much better than the 19's IMO. The lights make it look very sexy though I think... We called it the Stealth Renault at first on account of it being completely black and the fact that people used to say "Nice Golf" or "Wow, never seen an Astra look like that before".

Price wise it was much cheaper than the Williams option purely cos some people think it's ok to pay £1200 for the engine. We paid £400 for an entire car accident damaged Coupe, took what we needed and broke the rest for spares so it worked out very cheap. Not an easy conversion to be honest as there's alot involved so it's deffo not for the faint hearted and the likes of Chris, Chet and Neil Tunney all had to bare with my PM's and emails whilst I was trying to work out the best route to go on some things. Neil Tunney even drove over with his camera as he didn't think it would be possible to get it all running on Megane management in a 19. The gearbox was deffo there aswell mate. The lump would fall on the floor if it wasn't Razz

JB - Those covers go for a small fortune to Megane owners as the clips tend to break. I like it myself as it hides the fuel rail, pipes and the bits of the inlet I couldn't be arsed to clean up but it's gotta come off when the Jenvey's arrive Cool

A lot of people do put the 1.8 head on a megane bottom end.

But that's a bit stupid tbh as the megane head is far better than the 1.8 head, it's just that it involves a bit of work to use the megane head on 1.8 management.

ok do you need the megane clocks insted of the 19 clocks for the speedo and all to work? is that why you stuck the megane dash in the car?

no its because the megane engine runs coilpacksas standard instead of the dissy, and to use that you need the megane ECU and loom etc, which is all integrated with the dash basically.

You don't need the dash per say butyou do need the fusebox as that's the bit that does all the security in conjunction with the ECU and PLIP keys. The F7R-710 uses a waste spark ignition system. There are a feww reasons why people don't like to use the Meganes Siemens management, the first of which is it's not plug and play compliant within a Ph1-Ph 19/Clio 16v and the other main one is that you can't do anything with it. There are companies that claim to be able to alter the map and get you some performance gains but be warned as the Siemens units have an anti-tamper mode and can be easily fekked up! Another nasty is the Cat1 security meanign the Meganes are all uniquely coded in the ECU, PLIP Key and UBIC. These items are not interchangeable as they're vehicle specific and cost a fortune to replace so you need the lot from the same car if you're planning on running the management.

The easiest option to get the 710 lump in is to either rework it to accept F7P sensors and management and run that with a 2.0 map/chip or run it on a professional management system that can drive DIS/Waste Spark ignition systems.

FincH - Took us 3 months to plan, source parts, fit engine, re-wire and finally strike up. Took me a full day to work out that the fooking thing wouldn't fire as there was a 10A blade fuse missing as someone stole it from the breaker Twisted Evil

JB - Aye, MegaSquirt was the way I was going to go as it's cheap but the apart from having to make it yourself it doesn't actually work out much cheaper in the end... about £70 less so we forked out for the Emerald M3Dk setup after speaking to Dave at Autosport. It comes with a startup map for the F7R-710, can store two maps that are instantly switchable without the need for plugging in a laptop and you get telephone support. Worth the extra IMO:

One for MOT/Ministry Emissions test less CAT Embarassed
One for everyday use Cool

Just ordered a set of 420cc injectors aswell... total overkill for our needs but they were cheaper than the 330's.

£140 plus vat for all four. Better than £78 a piece for the 330cc's

Well they're actually from Germany... but I didn't think it was a bad price at all considering. Just need to find a radiator and fuel pressure regualtor then i'm set for installation. I can see it know though that i'll not be able to get on the rollers till April/may time :s
