Ive bought cars in the past that have had FSH, lady owner, immaculate bodywork and all that, and although thats obviously a good thing i think it would be a little foolish to assume that because of that you are going to get years of trouble free motoring. As bidderman said, if i had the choice of buying a car with FSH and shiney paint for £750 or one with a documented restoration for £1000 i'd buy the second one every time. |

thats hopefully what will happen to mine if im unable to keep it, as long as i have a fully documented restoration, whoever buys the car should hopefully be pleased and rest assured that they are etting a quality motor. if i sell it at the end, i might be tempted to buy a convertible one..... |

If you're just planning on restoring to sell, you've picked the wrong car, you won't make your money back let alone a profit. |

They're not sought after enough for people to pay thousands. Not yet anyway.
Manta - yes
Cossie - yes
Capri - yes
Mini - possibly
Renault 19 - no |

yea but in a few years it will be a sought after car as the 16v craze hasnt been around to long really but soon to be collectable cars i reakon (well at least a 20 T Ph1 )
all the cars you said have been around at least 10 years before the valvers so are more sought after motors |

Yeah so what's the point in restoring one now just to sell?
I'm doing mine in the full knowledge that I would never get what I'm spending on it if I was to try and sell it when it's finished. I don't care though, because I won't want to sell it.
Pug 205GTi - same vintage as the 19, much more sought after. One of those is worth doing up, that's why there are quite a few people doing so. |

Ive always thought that 19's aren't worth the money that other cars are simply because they are not as well know. Even when i bought mine i had no idea that they went on ebay for the money that they do, and when i found this website realised they go for even less than that! If a programme or magazine (Top Gear etc) did an article on them, 'the forgotten hot hatch' or something i bet their value would rocket up. |

The only reason I didn;t have a 19 16v sooner than I did was because I didn't know how much they were. I had always loved the shape and thought 'I'd love one of those', but because you always assume the things most desirable to you will be the most expensive, I always assumed they would be out of my price range at the time.
Of course, when I found out how much they really cost, that was it!
Cars are funny when it comes to mass appeal. For example... Astra GSi - the 19 16v will outhandle it any day of the week, and possibly match it in straight line speed but which is more popular? Perhaps because the Astra has more pleasing styling to most people? Who knows? |

yo guys, hear what you are all saying and i agree to pretty much everything, but i think the 19 16v will have its day, the way i see it, the more that rot away, the more the decent ones will be worth in the long run. i mean, how many 19 16v's do you see around on the roads nowadays? and most of the ones you do see, are, lets face it, scabby and neglected. lets start a "save the 19 16 valvers" campaign? lol |

I think they will become classic eventually, hot hatches started in the 80's with the golf and the golf mk1's are desirable, but it comes down to preference. I would say they are, coz the 19 cab is the car I saw and wanted when I was at school, so to me its a classic!!!! If it's desirability eventually outweighs the amount od (DECENT) 19's left then it will be classed as such. So keep them as standard as we can folks, they might be worth a bit soon! |
