Well ..my mate bought a CLIO 1.8 16valve (very nippy :S) the other night and like an idot he span it whilst the steering was on full lock then started to lose drive. I heard somthing about it might be the differential cir-clip just making sure it's a deffinate.
When put into gear it makes a catching noise and the speedo goes up.
No drive shafts move.
When i look at the driveshaft at the diff end on the passenger side it looks like it is wobbleing a bit like somthing aint catching inside (looking on the cir clip topic and looking at the pictures sounds like the circlip has poped out)
I am going to strip it tomorrow (never done it before) looks simple enough.
Just making sure it is the problem, and if there are any other suggestions please help out thanks .Jason. |

bingo
it will be the diff circlip the diff will prob come out with the pass side shaft, it will do it over and over again now the circlip either needs welding in to keep it there or a new box that hasnt popped the circlip |

Just wondering what are the chances of the circlip being intact? |

What are the chances the problem could be the gearbox? |

18 he only bought it for a laugh (300 quid) it's suppose to be putting out 150 bhp
I mean what are the chances it's the actual box its self that is broke? and the problem not being the circlip |

what difference does it make? Either answer will be best fixed with a new box. |

or put a new clip in and live happily ever after.
some will pop again and again, others will pop then take wheelspins everyday with 17's for 50k. |

See what you mean.
could you jack it up, stick it in gear and rotate the wheel and feel/hear that it isnt turning the diff or something?
of course i would just take it off but others wouldnt. |

thrustwasher as well mate.
if your lucky it'll be in stock, but other than that next day.
if you undo the passenger side hub nut then shove the shaft in the sunwheel will reseat. The speedo will stop moving, you may even be able to drive it a foot or 2 before the wheel moves back out though |
